with my 8900 and my 8320 before that - with tmobile - anytime I'd do a battery pull - when it booted up - it'd show I had a voicemail. Alls I had to do is call voicemail - wait for it to say no new messages - hang up. The notification would then leave.

Should have said that I'd done a battery pull and rang viocemail and waited for them to say that there were no messages. (thats all a bit obvious though)
But saying all that I missed the obvious ring and leave myself a message! that one worked
Just as an FYI...I had an 8320 before the 8900. There were a few times that the wife and I had to switch my SIM card into her phone and hers into mine for troubleshooting reasons. Every time I put MY SIM card into a phone, (even our old Nokia) I get a message waiting indicator. I know it has to do with my phone number, but T-Mobile doesn't know what causes it.
All I do to get rid of it is call myself, hit "Ignore" while it is ringing and leave myself a message. (Normally, I blow into the phone). After that, I can get my message and the icon goes away.
Just to throw this in the post for future reference:
With T-Mobile, if you can't get rid of that MWI (Message Waiting Indicator) it's either an issue with your ability to send/receive SMS or something on the provider's end and you'd need to call.
