Default Push GMail AVAILABLE !

Please Login to Remove!

Per Phonescoop.com, Helio is the first carrier to offer push GMail... Hopefully it will follow onto the BB's...

There's already a Gmail app and POP3/IMAP, not sure why push is so important to everyone.

Wirelessly posted (life goes on! yes it is tough)

Doesn't gmail get "pushed" to BB already?

Yes, it does. GMail app is useful, though, if you want to access your contacts.

push means that the e-mail will go straight to the blackberry after the sender hits "send", instead of having the blackberry go retrieve it from an inbox. so your e-mail will be "instant".

The difference between having the bb retrieve and having it pushed to your device, for gmail in particular, is less than 5 minutes. If anything is that important that 5 minutes are going to make a difference, pick up the phone and "reach out and touch someone".

Default Gmail has no lag time? What?

The last time I tried to have Gmail push to my phone (last month), it most certainly did not work instantly. I am always curious to hear about improvements but even more curious about the motivation users might have for claiming otherwise.

I have experienced lag times of 12 hours and more with IMAP pushing Gmail to my phone. And, as far as I am concerned, if it doesn't sync/update in sync with my BB, it is pointless. The native BB configuration is smarter than that.

If I forward my Gmail to my yahoo account, it goes to my phone instantly, every time. I use this configuration now since I need the ability to respond in near real time when I am away from the office.

It will be a pleasure when Gmail does actually work this way for BB but, IMHO, it absolutely does not.

My gmail almost never takes more than 2 minutes to get to my phone. I'd say it usually takes about a minute...

if you forward your mail from gmail to your bb, it's instantaneous, and in many cases, will hit your phone before it hits your gmail webmail inbox.

as for "push" gmail on Helio... didnt anyone here get the news? Helio is as dead (and animated) as a zombie. SK Telecom, their backer, is pulling out and Virgin has scooped them up.

For those that are complaining about delays in receiving Gmail on their BBs, are you using a conventional GMail account, or one that you've set up through Google Apps (aka Google for Domains)?

I have both a gmail.com address and a domain who's MX records are pointed at Google Apps. For the former, mail posts to both my BB and my inbox virtually simultaneously (a la "push"); with the latter, it can take some time. It's generally not a long delay, but it's there.

Configuring my hosted domain in BIS had to be done using the advanced settings, too, and after specifying the mail server, BIS decided that it wanted to use IMAP on port 993 to fetch my mail. On a regular GMail account configured in BIS, there are no advanced settings to set, since RIM has specific functionality built into BIS to recognize and configure those accounts.

The original post was made 2 months ago. To the original post, GMail was configured for push and integration through the BlackBerry Internet Service since August 2006 (the version 2.1 upgrade).

Wirelessly posted (7130e)

I have absolutely no problems receiving my mail through gmail instantly. Someone mentioned it taking sometimes 12 hours. If that's the case you might want to resend your service books or delete your gmail account and readd it.
