Default Firewall

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

I have installed the BES server (Development with a 90 day trial)
Since the SRP was not able to connect, I figured that that port 3101 needs to be opened for outbound initiated traffic.
I have a few questions in this regards

Since the Network Maintaince and configurations are done by an external company, I cannot request them for repeated changes to be done.

. Objective is to develop a Client application J2ME enabled that will interact with our internal server. (Artecturally i am thinking of doing a HTTP enabled client)
. In order to achieve this, What are the changes to be done on the firewall?
1. Port 3101 needs to be enabled for outbound initiated traffic. (this will be good enough for emails to be sent to the handset)
2. Are there any other configurations to be done on the BES (i have enabled MDS).
3. Are there any configurations to be done on the Firewall?
4. Any other things I have missed?

Thanking all for their contributions
AL

Default Resolved - Answers from RIM

1. We need OUTBOUND-initiated , BIDIRECTIONAL Connection for port 3101 for the machine that has the BES installed.

2. BES will establish a connection with the BLACKBERRY SERVERS and will remain persistent if authenticated (else no connection is established) the authentication information are the set of ID's recieved along with the installation kit of which some are unique.

3. Any inbound traffic from any other destination will be discarded by the BES.
