Default FreeRange WebReader - what BB did for email, WebReader does for the Internet

Please Login to Remove!

FreeRange Communications this week announced FreeRange WebReader, our latest product for accessing the information you care about from the Internet.

With FreeRange WebReader, you have what you care about most from the Internet always available from your Blackberry and instantly accessible, regardless of whether you are on or off-line. WebReader runs in the background, updating information from the sites you are subscribed to, so that when you launch the application you instantly get everything you care about. Beta testers have loved it and say it completely changes how they use their Blackberry. This is a huge step forward from our previous product - if you ever tried FreeNews, we think you'll really enjoy the upgrade to WebReader.

We'd love to have everyone try it - OTA download by pointing the BB browser to http://mwap.at . It's free for up to 10 sites, so please give it a go and let us know what you think. I'll extend the full product to the first 25 people to email me feedback.

We've put a few movies on our website showing the FreeRange WebReader in action here:

http://www.freerangeinc.com

A brief feature list:
  • Background updating - you don't go to websites for information, they come to you with with updates.
  • Automatically download just headlines and summaries, or include full text from websites.
  • Extensive keyboard shortcuts
  • Fast built-in article and image browser.
  • Great for pictures - includes zoom and pan
  • Share interesting news items via email or post to del.icio.us
We'd love your feedback so we can continue to improve the product.

Thanks,

Jon Maroney

I have both on my 8800 now, and it looks like I'll be removing Viigo. I prefer the UI, and the presentation of the feeds on FreeRange. There is support for hyperlinks, without shelling out to a browser. Overall, I prefer the look and feel of FreeRange, but that's purely subjective on my part.

As a follow up to the email I sent, could you change the program icon so you can see when it is highlighted? I know I can read the name of what's highlighted, but I've become accustomed to my blue circle around the selected program.

If you'll take a look at your other third-party apps, you'll notice that very, very few of them change when they're selected (none of mine do, but perhaps that's an OS issue). Only the default apps change or are highlighted when selected.

True, not all change, but every app I have installed on my 7290 has a blue ring around it when highlighted.

A smaller icon so that you can see the blue ring then.

I sent you an e-mail just now to give you some general feedback on how I am enjoying the software.

D'oh, left out the 'e' in your domain -- the e-mail is sent now. :D

Email sent.

I think images in the articles load a LOT faster than using Viigo.

I noticed that when i try to send an email to a contact that has more than one email address, it always puts in the first address, regardless of the one I select.

(I had the same problem with Viigo).

I'm adding this to my list of apps on my website.

I agree.. The only think is that FreeRange limit you to 10 feeds max (you can buy the full version). ViiGo is free.

I have both on now and been using them for a week. I have my left shortcut key set to FreeRange. and the right key to JTalk

This is hands down the best news reader for BB - I use it every single day!

Thanks for creating it

I think the ability to create your own folders is a major plus. Additionally, I like the fact that I can name the feed, as opposed to Viigo doing it automatically.

This is definitely a keeper.
