BES Manager hangs on launch

I'm running BES 4.1.2 for Exchange. Everything on the server is working fine.
I've installed just the Remote Management component on my local PC running Win XP. When I attempt to launch the app, the initial splash screen launches and stays in the foreground. In addition, the Windows Installer opens. As it is presumably covered by the splash screen, I can't see what it's trying to install. (ALT-tabbing, etc do nothing to get me around this). Leaving it like this indefinitely, doesn't clear the problem.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling this component several times on the local machine to no avail.
Has anyone else run into this? Any recommendations/suggestions would be appreciated.
