Default Viigo no longer working on 9650

Please Login to Remove!

One of my favorite apps, Viigo, stopped working for me the other day. None of my feeds would refresh. I tried closing/re-opening, battery pulls, etc. I deleted the app and went to re-download in App World, but it says the app is not available for my device. I was able to download it from Viigo's website, but after installing, it still doesn't refresh any of my feeds.

I loaded the latest OS from Verizon a couple weeks ago, but Viigo worked fine up until two days ago.

What gives?

Use the BlackBerry news feeds app and import your Viigo feeds.

Do not know, but I suspect RIM (who bought Viigo) has stopped supporting the Viigo app.

I used to rely on Viigo for news feeds and found that OS 6 broke Viigo. BlackBerry Feeds is the alternative and I find it far superior to Viigo.

I should have added that the function to import Viigo feeds into BlackBerry News Feeds is built into the app. Just select from menu and provide Viigo login info. From there, select particular feeds to import, etc.

How so? There are tons of features missing from BB News Feeds.

For me, that is a benefit. Viigo got bloated very quickly. I quit using it a long time ago. The RIM news reader simply does the one thing it is supposed to do, and does it pretty well.

One of my favorite features was being able to read a complete news article without having to browse to it. With News Feeds, it only gives snippets. I also loved that I could get the entire Formula 1 schedule, including start times, and add it to my calendar, all without using the browser.

I know I'm just griping, though. C'est la vie.

I find it depends on the feed whether I get the entire article or just the first paragraph, or just a sentence or two description. One thing I missed at first was being able to open articles in a mobile friendly format in the reader, but I've adapted.

The calendar feature sounds cool, but you start with those things and then where does it stop? Email? (Isn't there a famous saying about the evolution of an app, with the evolution ending with the app doing email?)

If Viigo supported video playback within the app, it would have been a nearly perfect app.

It also had a Craigslist feature, whereby you could create specific searches (i.e. 2004 Focus) that would populate every time you launched it.

It was an awesome piece of software, and had a great run.

Ah, memories . . .

Just downloaded the BlackBerry News Feeds app, and I must say, I like it. I agree that there was just too much within Viigo; the weather feature was never accurate for me, and I never used the politics/shopping/etc. channels either.

I was able to import my Viigo feeds very easily from within the app. I, too, am finding that certain feeds show snippets while others show the full article, which isn't a big issue for me. I usually just e-mail myself what I want to read later.

This app does the job. Thanks for the tip.
