Default NEW! Add "C"ompose keypress shortcut back to BlackBerry 8700 Series!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

The utility to add back the "C"ompose keypress shortcut, has now been released:
http://wireless.sra.com/utils/

More details:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=23479

This brings up the new blank email compose of OS 4.1, rather than the addressbook, so one can always type at the main screen things like:
"Crej<enter>" = Creates an email to Mark Rejhon
"Cjo sm<enter>" = Creates and email to John Smith
"C[email address]<enter>" = Creates an email to [email address]

This is also useful on all OS 4.1 upgraded BlackBerries that have lost the Compose keypress (except SureType models such as 71XX)

To get access to keyboard shortcuts for icons, disable dialing from home screen (Phone->Options->Dial From Home Screen->No). You'd just have to press the green phone button first before dialing, but most people do that anyway on most phones.

Thanks for the tip and the link. And who is SRA? I'm fairly new to the BB platform so if it's been around for a while and is well known, please help educate me.

Default Works great, Cingular theme comment

Wirelessly posted (8700c: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Working nicely so far. On Cingular theme if its in app submenu then it won't work. If you put the app submenu on the ribbon bar before the address book icon then, the A keypress should get you to the App sumbmenu and not the address book, so a keypress of AC should work.

Mark a big thanks for this program. I would also like to know who wrote this.

Rambler, do you think you can fix the issue with cingular theme for composer to press "C" from Main menu instead of going to sub menu (applications folder) then press "C" to bring it up? Thanks for this cool program.

Thanks for the great utility. What is the other download on the page "TextMob"? I downloaded it but do not see that it does anything.

Who built the compose utility? It's commendable that someone was willing to do that and not charge for it.

The app is great....thank you! I noticed that after I compose and send an email, it takes me back to the Message list. Then, if I press the button below the thumbwheel, it starts to compose a new message. Is that normal? Before installing the app, pressing that button would escape to the Home screen.

Default Bug or not

You can always press the red key instead I guess, and think of this as the rapid firing multiple email app.

I offered a small reward for the first person to provide the utility free of charge. Ramble (SRA) took up that opportunity.

Source code for the "C"ompose utility can be found here. It's only 10 lines or so!

Default Yeah fell off my bicycle

Tried to send 60 emails in a minute while riding. I suspect you and I enjoy another hobby too.

Default Mark can a program like this be done?

Back in my old Palm days there was a great program called Datebook 5 that enhanced the address book and calendar. What I really liked was one particular feature.

You could put an item on the calendar "Call x" and the address book would pop up and let you choose thier number. With the ability of the BB to dial from the number that would be awesome.

I assume this can be done, since Google Local invokes a Call feature.

Does anyone else think this would be useful?
