Fun Question to do with Outlook and POP3 and Syncing Read Mail Real Time

Hey guys!
So, I am finally getting into the Blackberry world (I know, get with the 2000's!). I'm in IT, so fairly tech savvy. So, to start with my setup: my mail account I need to connect to my BB is POP3 - unfortuantely there is no MAPI option as it's a web mail provider.
Currently I have my e-mail going to my Outlook client via POP3 service. That's all fine and dandy, but I need to plan how to get my e-mail on my new Blackberry.
The thing is that I have specific requirements, and need help with how to build this (if even possible).
I need to have my e-mail sync'ed in real time on my Outlook client with my Blackberry. For example, when someone sends me an e-mail, it will be delivered to both my Blackberry and my Outlook - and if I mark it read on either, it will be marked as read on the other.
So, understanding that POP3 is a 'dumb' service - basically mail forwarder - I heard that this cannot be done. But, there must be some way!
First question is: is there any easy way?
One idea, which may sound stupid at first: setup a gmail account. Have gmail account pull mail from my POP3 account. Then connect to my gmail account via the Blackberry via a MAPI connection. Then (i'm not sure if this will work) set my gmail account or even BB's outgoing smtp address to the smtp account of the POP3 mail account. Think that would work?
Comments? Suggestions? Do I just sound mad - or do you think there is an easier way?
