Default OS: 9700 5.0.1302/5.0.0.770 (Multilanguage)

Please Login to Remove!

Software For BlackBerry® Bold (TM) 9700 smartphone
BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1302 (Multilanguage)
Package Version: 5.0.0.1302
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 5.0.0.770
  • Software Platform: 5.1.0.168
  • File name: 9700M_PBr5.0.0_rel1302_PL5.1.0.168_A5.0.0.770_i_wi reless.exe
  • File size: 133.5MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 9700:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

For the previous OS, see this link: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-eastasia.html

I don't think the memory on the 9700 will support OS 6 properly. :(

You should check the 25 other threads where the 9700 is mentioned as being supported...

the key word is "properly"...I see that it will come w/ the "refreshed" 9700 (that has 512mb) .... I think it will go on an older 9700 (much like you could get OS5 on an older 9000).
I hope it works out well...then I can load OS6 on my 9700 and make the resale of it better! ;)

Edit:
in researching, I didn't realize that the 9000, 9700 AND 9800 all operate on a 624 MHz processor. Interesting.

Question

Why would I downgrade my current 5.0.0.862 OS to this one?

Yeah, this definitely isn't working for me. Installed it, deleted Vendor.xml, but for whatever reason, the update won't come up in the available software updates like it did last time. Loader.exe wouldn't work either. And .862 is messing up visual voicemail, smh...I guess I'll just go down to .656

@Ketchums: Reset your default permissions to allow. Then reboot the device. That should fix your VVM issues. VVM is working fine for most everyone else and .862 is far superior to .656.

If you're on .862 you'll need to remove .862 from your PC in order to downgrade to .770.

I'm about to reinstall .862 now...you sure that's it though? Because the VVM will work fine at first, then the process will just end out of nowhere. I wouldn't think that's an issue of default permissions. And where do I change default permissions, anyway?

I can't guarantee it will work but that's what worked for me. I saw the error after boot up. I assumed it was a permissions issue so I went to Options >Applications and set my default permissions to "Allow" for everything and saved settings. Then I rebooted. I haven't seen the error again...yet.

I've uninstalled .862, and then installed this .770 on my comp. But .770 won't come up in my desktop manager as one of the available softwares...any idea why?

**nevermind...just deleted the vendor again, and it looks like I'm good to go**
