Default Battery test

Please Login to Remove!

After a full night of charge and play around with some settings last night, I was out and about in the nice Sunny SoCal all day with a mission to make the wife happy. (After all, I got my Torch, right?)

Made and received about 15 calls in my car (with Bluetooth headset of course), made a few calls over lunch, received and replied about 25 e-mails (very quiet Friday), and DL an excel attachment, checked some stock quotes on Bloomburg, and did few minutes web browsing while wife and friends were shopping.

Thoughout the day my device has always been connected to my Bluetooth headset (Plantronic 9700).

By the end of day, before I place it back on the charger by midnight, 25% battery life. This is a little bit disappointing consider how "chunky" the phone is. This is worse than my Bold 9700!

Just curious what's everyone been seeing/getting?

I think that is pretty good, compared to other smartphones such as Android and iPhone.

Default Battery Life

How do you have your e-mail set up? I have push turned on which means it gets e-mails ALOT. >200+ a day. I start a 3am and end at 9pm and make a lot of calls. 25% at the end of the day for me is normal. I have always charged my phones every night. On weekends when the email slows as do the calls I have no problems going all weekend.
Second thing I've noticed in the past is it takes a couple of weeks of charging and discharging for the batteries to come to life.

Try turning off bluetooth for a day and see how it does.

I've done all the usuall battery saving steps. Display brightness reduced to 10%, turned off wireless when not using it, make sure all non-esential apps are shut down. With heavy use (because its a new phone and I'm playing with it), my battery is still 90% at the end of the day.

Curently having a friendly battery duel with my friend at work and his new iPhone4. We're going to go all weekend without charging and see who's phone battery lasts longer.

He just got his iPhone 4 weeks ago and he said he can already see its not lasting as long as it used to when it was brand new.

I actually forgot how frequent I used BBM... So I guess if you add that, it wasn't too bad after all.

After a full charge Friday night, DISC from the charger around 1:30am, now it's Saturday afternoon 4:36PM, battery still at 95%!!! Well, only had a couple e-mail and zero calls since this morning. I think there were also 3-4 RSS feeds came in. (Not sure if that also decrease battery life faster.)

Maybe afterall, the bluetooth does drain the battery faster than anything else?

Bluetooth on all the time, about ~100-150 emails pushed from BES, web surfing about 20 pages or so, mucking around with settings/ringtones/etc, about 10 phone calls, one which was about 20 minutes and the rest were shorter, MSN messenger in the background, six RSS feeds checking every 30 minutes, Facebook on, blackberry messenger, weatherbug updating once every 30 minutes, ~5 meeting notifications with vibration + sound, hotmail pop email, another POP email box, screen backlit brightness at 100, 8am to 8pm and had about 30% left to go.

Not bad, I was used to charging my bold 9000 every night. I should probably turn the brightness down and reduce the delay from 30 to 20 seconds. But I need bluetooth. I'm happy with the battery so far.

I have found my battery life to be terrible. I went from a 8900 where I got 2+ days and I get 1/2 day with the Torch. I've adjusted everything and checked running apps. Today my battery was 100% at 8:00AM and it's at 62% now (12:00PM) with no emails and 1 call.

Bad battery?

Sounds like it. I was mucking around with mine every 30 minutes or so yesterday sending texts and playing with settings and it went the entire day with 50% leftover. I did turn the brightness down to 10 (which actually looks just fine and is not dark at all).

I did follow a tip I read about in an android forum (gasp) where people were trying to condition their android batteries to last longer. On the first day I charged it up to 100% and then used it until it completely died - ie device shutdown entirely. Then charged it up again to complete a full cycle. I think they claim it greatly improves battery life. I honestly don't know if it did anything but I did do it after I bought the device.
