Default GPRS/wap browsing in China

Please Login to Remove!

I am having trouble configuring my 7100T (bought used with someone else's setup) to browse over GPRS using a China Mobile SIM card. I get 'GSM' and 'gprs' service just fine, but no 'GPRS' and no WAP or internet data connection for browsing. Has anyone had any luck with this?

Tech details:
My TCP config is pointing to 'cmwap', but they gave me an ip address to enter (a gateway?), but there is no where to for it to go. Also, I noticed that my service book is missing a 'WAP transport' listing. Could that be the missing link? I do have a 'WAP push config' entry, and I do get spam SMS messages.

Any help would be welcome.

BTW, my friend has an ATT mMode SIM card and his blackberry gets 'GPRS' just fine while roaming in China, plus, he can browse. The network cannot be the problem.

gprs = in a gprs zone but no IP assigned to your bb

most likely cause you're missing a Blackberry data plan. Do you ever see "data connection refused"?

to get the wap servicebooks, you have to be in "GPRS" and you have to perform a register now via options/security/host routing table/ click & register now. Will not work if you're in "gprs"

try to set the scan mode to manual options/network/ click manual
then do a scan for networks select one you know for sure that has data roaming (ie GPRS) and select that. Cross your fingers

hope that helps even a little bit.

Thank you for some clairity here. But I still have a problem.

My SIM is a china mobile SIM, and I don't think they offer a data plan. But my question is the following: can I:
1) use a friend's roaming SIM card with GPRS to register,
2) get the wap service books on my handset, and then
3) switch to my own China Mobile SIM card and still browse the web?

In theory yes. You are on the right track...

Only problem is when your friend's SIM is removed from your device after getting the WAP browser/Servicebooks, they will remove themselves and you will have no browser again.

I don't understand. When I bought the BB, it came with a bunch of service books which belonged to the previous owner, right? There is an email address listed in the email config. So that makes me think that they stay with the phone, and not the SIM card.

Anyone else know different?

I got mine in the US on eBay. It's good to know that there is someone else who shares the same problem. I'm disappointed that we have to wait for the BB message service. I just wish that there was a way to do simple WAP browsing. I know China Mobile supports that, it's just not possible with my 7100T the way it is currently configured.

Ouch. I had to get my brother, a T-Mobile customer in good standing, to call in my Blackberry under his account. 24 hours later, T-Mobile sent me a poorly worded, but ultimately successful, email with the unlock codes.

BTW, has anyone had luck installing the chinese lang support from HongKong CSL(?) on a BB without opening an account in HK?

Yes. Just install the Hong Kong CSL version of BlackBerryOS, which is available in the BlackBerryOS 4.0 Upgrade Downloads thread. (For the thread, click the BlackBerry FAQ below)

Same story here. I'm in Vietnam. Does any know how to purchase BB Data plan services while you're not in US, UK. I know that T-mobile sim works here (roaming with local mobile service providers).

If I purchase roaming service with my local provider (they claim that I can phone, sms while I'm oversee), can I use/purchase BB data plan services?

If anyone can read chinese, here is a link which has quite a few threads about how to setup internet on BB in China.

Didn't read through, but seems they just delete the browser and replac e with something else. Do a search and you might find some useful info.
