I have recently bought a blackberry 9300 Unlocked and have put my already existing orange contract in it which doesn't contain free internet. So to use BBM would i have to contact blackberry and pay for the £5 a month unlimited internet or something???

If you want to use BlackBerry Data features, you must pay for a BlackBerry Data service with your carrier.
