storm went swimming

so i left my storm in my pocket and the pants went into the wash....
i realized as the machine was filling up and hoped that it wouldnt be submerged yet but it had been. I quickly removed the battery and dried out the phone....blew out with compressed air, left it to dry for 24 hrs, tried it, nothing, left it 24 more hours and voila!, it started working.
Almost everything is working properly....screen is fine, camera, all good...
where im having issues is with the charging/battery...
when i plug it in it doesnt recognize that i have done so, until i do a re-boot with quick pull. then it charges up fine and all is well. except for that the area just above the speaker on the back gets hot and the battery runs down in about 3-4 hours max. then i have to re-boot and charge. also when i unplug the phone it still thinks its charging most of the time.
anyway....can anyone advise on what component might be causing this? the phone works perfectly otherwise and i'd like to fix it. is it possible that a complete re-do of sofware or something might help? any suggestions would be great...

I think you might want to let it dry a little longer.
Some put the phone in rice, or some other material that will absorb moisture.
Dont use air to help dry, as it forces moisture into areas that it may not have entered in the first place.

well on sunday it will have been two weeks since the dunk....and i live in utah...pretty dry air here. i doubt its going to dry out any more than it is. any ideas on parts? is the "mid plate" the computer guts of the phone or just a mounting plate for everything else?

I would try rice.... I also heard that if you put your phone into the oven at about 300 degrees for 15 minutes... I have heard of luck with that

One cure to help dry it out that I have seen mentioned in the Forums is to place the phone into a bag of uncooked rice for 5-7 days. Seems the rice will draw out the moisture.
If you turn it on while it is still wet, you will most likely fry the insides.

well i have been using it for a week and a half now. no real changes... like i mentioned above, everything works other than the charging and battery life. does anyone know about the mid plate? or think that a software nuke might help?

You can try disassembling and drying out the individual components but proceed at your own risk. A disassembly video can be found below (not affiliated with the site). Just click on the Video tab. Be very careful when removing the camera cover and bottom cover:

It depends on what you are looking for. Bezels, screens, and blackplates can be found online and through Horizon Wireless (BBF Sponsor). I have yet to find anyone selling the mainboards or midplates. But then again, mainboards would need programming anyway.
When you remove the flex cable connectors, take compressed air to the connections and let them dry thoroughly. Also, spray into the Micro-USB port after disassembly.

How is his warranty void? If he has insurance on the phone (which I think EVERYBODY should) His "warranty" per say might be but not his insruance, if you have insurance on the phone simply call Verizon and pay $50.00 bucks and get a new device. Thats what insurance is for, and thats why we pay $7.99 per month for it.

I was thinking the same thing... and the warranty may be in void i.e. past the 1 year warranty that verizon honors in situations like software, or faulty device but as long as you got 7.99 on your acc every month than it should be like tyler says 50 bones

yeah....this moron(me) didnt get the insurance....
in 10 yrs that i've had cell phones i have never broken one, (or submerged one), prior to the time that i would naturally have gotten a new one...
hell of a time to have my first major accident!

As I said everyone should add insurance to ANY PDA/Smart Phone device they get. And even just a regular cell phone as well they aren't cheap!

These devices have become significantly cheaper, there are deals all the time, discounts for contract renewals, if you consider that the warranty is one year to start with, and the fact few people keep phones for more than two years, then amortize the loss of one, or even two phones (a stretch for most people) over a life of paying insurance premiums, the math simply doesn't add up.
Therefore, unless you're a dropper, loser, or just the type to break your stuff, buying insurance is more an EMOTIONAL decision than a good financial one.

I've never bought insurance on BlackBerrys and similar personal electronics. For some people, it is what they need.
For me, it would be a waste of money.

Have you tried walking into a store and talking to a store manager and see if he can help. They have the power to give you a small discount if he or she can. It never hurts to ask. It all depends how long you have been a customer. Good luck
