What is MicroSky
MicroSky is a planetarium for mobile/cell devices with Java-support and a connection to the Internet (preferably GPRS or UMTS). It is a very small J2ME-Midlet client/server application which retrieves its starcharts from the skyserver. It can display 2.500.000 stars, 8.000 deep sky objects, the constellations, the planets, local horizon, 1000 current comets, and minor planets. MicroSky provides lots of functions and settings for customizing the MicroSky-Charts to your individual needs.

Microsky v3 extends v2 with even more functions such as a more polished style, Bluetooth-GPS support and a offline mode that reduces the GPRS costs and enables MicroSky for outdoor regions without GPRS reception.
For those who want a preview before clicking through! Looks like a good addition to any BB, now you can impress dates with your knowledge of the stary sky!

So which one did you load:
MicroSky v2 for mobile devices which support at least J2ME MIDP 1.0
MicroSky v3 without Bluetooth-Api
MicroSky v3 with Bluetooth-Api

I followed the link to the BB edition. 3.1.2. I don't think it supports GPS. So I emailed them to see if one of the other versions do.

The way I read it, the version with BT-api will determine BT setting automatically, but the ver 3 w/o the BT-api will still work with BT, only the user must input the BT info (device address, baud rate). I figured out baud rate, but for life of me can't find/figure out BT-device-address on 8700g with OS 4.1.

I thought one of them mentioned internal GPS support?

For clarity about what I'm talking about, this is from website, regarding main settings:

- GpsType:Select if you want to get your Location data with a bluetooth device or per comm-portThe following settings are necessary if your chosen GPS-Type is BLUETOOTH and if you want to receive location data from a connected GPS (NMEA).- Gps-BT-DeviceAddress:This setting is used if GPS-Type is BLUETOOTH. If your device support Bluetooth-Api, this field will be filled automatically with your chosen bluetooth-device-address. If your device doesn't support Bluetooth-Api you have to fill here your bluetooth-device-address manually.- Gps-BT-Port:This setting is used if GPS-Type is BLUETOOTH. If your device support Bluetooth-Api, this field will be filled automatically with your chosen bluetooth-device-serial-port. If your device doesn't support Bluetooth-Api you have to fill here your bluetooth-device-serial-port manually.- GpsPort:This setting is used if GPS-Type is COMM_PORT. Choose the mobile phone serial port of the connected serial GPS- GpsBaudrate:This setting is used if GPS-Type is COMM_PORT. Choose here the baudrate of the connected serial GPSConfirm your changes with 'OK'.

Can't find answer or figure out what is bluetooth device address. The baud rate for BT-359 is 38400.

Maybe I'm not understanding difference between the version 3 w/o the bluetooth api and the version with.

From the website regarding the version w/o the bluetooth api: "MicroSky v3 without Bluetooth-Api with internal bluetooth ... "

Maybe that is what you saw. Doesn't say internal GPS anywhere I've read so far.

I used MicroSky a lot last summer on my 8700. Was great for those nights when I was out with the scope and didnt feel like dragging out the starcharts. I'd love to see a version that uses the internal GPS on the 8800 for when I travel to other sites to observe.

Hmm... Any special setting I should be aware of? I downloaded the .alx file and installed it via BB Desktop. Then I registered on the skyserver... But I can't login because of the tunnel error...

I emailed the auther and she said that "there is no MicroSky version, which supports the Blackberry internal gps. Maybe you can try using serial port, but we have no experience with this on blackberry. If you get it running, please report to us, otherwise we hope you can enjoy MicroSky without GPS, too."
