Default OS: 9630 5.0.0.1242/5.0.0.732 (All Languages)

Please Login to Remove!

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1061 (All Languages)

Package Version: 5.0.0.1242
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.732
* Software Platform: 4.2.0.334
* File name: 9630cmpttjAllLang_PBr5.0.0_rel1242_PL4.2.0.334_A5. 0.0.732.exe

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software here:
BlackBerry® Software Updates

Instructions for installing either version on ANY carrier's 9630:
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Clicking on the link above where it says "Download here". If you are a Verizon customer, you will know what to do.

If you are not a Verizon customer:
  1. click on "Personal Email",
  2. Select the 9630 model.
  3. Half way down the screen, select Standard or Multi-Language
  4. Enter the required phone number as 123 456 7890
  5. And, then click on "Download Now".

I've been running this OS for a few days now without incident. Today, however, I have noticed that none of my sound profiles are working properly. Most notably, in normal there are no audible alerts. I have done a few battery pulls without any change.

Also, I noticed that, when I reinstalled FB it completely hijacked my calender and erased everything non-fb. This was fixed with a calender reload in DM but still....

Has anyone else been having these issues?

Much as I'd like to have a faster browser, I'm using 5.0.0.624 - official from Sprint on my Tour. Are you folks saying it doesn't matter that I install a Verizon update on a Sprint Tour? I'd really hate to brick the little guy!

Default Can't install new OS

When I try to install the new OS following the instructions above, I get a message that "Only active Blackberry service Subscribers are entitled to install this Blackberry Device Software upgrade" I've tried to do the install with the Desktop Manager and by just running the loader.exe.
Is there another version that I can install? or Am I missing something doing the install. The phone is a 9630 and has been wiped. What is installed is 4.1.0.81. Thanks for any help that can be provided.

My question to mmaldin is does the Sprint navigation work properly with this version?

Default OS 5.0 upgrade for 9630

Is the 5.0 uprade for the 9630 hand-held available to deploy from a BES server? I can't find anything about it online, and my BES is only seeing the 4.7 version. Any comments are appreciated!

I just can't make this work at all. Phone is unlocked, reset to factory / IT policy removed, and can't even import the *.alx files to try a manual update. Trying to add files with loader, it just comes back with msg that they're all incompatible.

There has got to be a way to do this by hand, but I'll be borked if I see it yet..

Just clicking on and running loader does nothing but bring up a list of stuff in downloads to folder to remove. There is nothing about an "update".

Default Is the OS carrier specific?

Ok guys! I'm in the middle of a huge pissing contest on another board. A few weeks ago I took my Sprint BB9650 to a Sprint repair facility as I was having track pad issues. It’s under warranty. I had downloaded the following OS 5.0.0.810 a few weeks prior from the OS 5.0.0.699. I don’t think the OS had any issues to do with the track pad not work right. I’ve noticed a few issues, but nothing I would lose any sleep over. Like everyone else I had to have the latest and greatest and had to have it now OS on my device! So I take the BB in and the tech jumps my case for having an unsupported OS on the devise. Sprint is still on the previous version OS of 5.0.0.699. So in a nut shell the tech told me I could either downgrade the OS to the Sprint supported version or he would charge me accordingly for non-warranty work. So I heeded the warning and I let them downgrade the OS. I get the BB back and everything is working normally, so I think as it has not incurred any issues since then that I can find and they replaced the track pad.
So here’s the million dollar question, why does Sprint not support the OS 5.0.0.810? I’m told on the other board it’s not carrier specific. OK then why does it not find the upgrade when I plug it into my desktop software and I have to force it down another way? Sprint still says the current OS is 5.0.0.699. I’ve tried to upgrade back to the 5.0.0.810 via both Sprint and Blackberry web sites and both say I have the current OS on the phone. Not carrier specific? What gives?
Obviously it must be somewhat carrier specific otherwise when I hit the upgrade device tab I should be getting it, correct? There must be some kind of code that says for Alltel only devices. Is there code in the .810 OS that’s specifically for Alltel and for the other carriers it just sits idle and unused within the device? Since I’m not a program genius I can’t say.
To compound the issue a leaked version of OS 6 is floating around and of course the OS 5 is no longer a wanted item as something bigger and better is now available. Is Sprint pouring it’s eggs into another basket vs. messing around with another version and fixing issues? So with a leak you get just that a leak and whole batch of issues that go with that. My take on a leak is just that a leak that got out somehow whether via a reputable source or someone with a great deal of time on their hands to re-write the code and shove it down the BB and hope it works and blog about its issues. So why buy a new device when you can have your old device with a copy of unsupported OS 6 on it?
So I’ve been called everything from A-Z on this. Some insist that the leak is a Beta OS and BB is monitoring the results via boards? In my mind it would better if BB Program Mangers and Engineers monitor the OS in a controlled environment vs. letting a bunch of geeks apply patches upon patches hoping to get this off the ground and call it an OS 6 want a be? My rebuttal on this was like trying to install a Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit disk onto a an old 286 PC and hoping and praying it will work. I’m sure there are some idiots out there that would think this was doable. But I think I’m smart enough to figure that it won’t work regardless of how much time and energy one spends it’s not going to work.
So call me stupid, uniformed, ect!!! Whatever!! For now I have to be content with the OS that’s supported by the carrier and leave it at that until they officially release something if I want warranty work done on my BB.

Anyone care to commit?

I've had the same problem. LED flashes, but no sound. Also, no sound when I change a tone: when scrolling through tone options, it's just silent.
Anybody have some ideas? A little frustrated...
