The 8520 is fairly old but you can try doing a search on the internet for updates and information on the highest available. there are also some YouTube links showing how to update.

You should do a full backup before doing anything.

Which story? what do you mean. If YouTube for update info, just do a search and watch one or two for info. Again do a backup before you do any OS updates.

Also generally carriers offer software updates for blackberry cell phones. You do not show a carrier. Add yours and possible someone will suggest where to look.

As an example only this link from T-Mobil has updates for their phones. you need to go to your carrier.

is there a way to install linux or something on 8520? after cancelling any support BB should give way to the bootloader!
