Default Why so little beta's recently....

Please Login to Remove!

Anyone know why there are so little beta's recently? I'm on a 9700 Bold 2 - I regularly browse this board and the Bold 2 board - and the last two upgrades I've have been official releases. This is very unusual - usually there are a few interim beta releases and we get the official release as a beta (before its later declared an official release).

I guess the criminals who illegally leak RIM software have better things to do these days... or maybe RIM plugged some of those leaks.

ha ha! If used correctly, you'd have to think that its a good thing. Blackberry could get a lot of free beta testing done for them by reading boards like this?

Seeing as 5.0 was the most anticipated release since the summer, and it has now been finalized I don't think RIM has much in the way of betas.

Most likely the next wave would be a 5.1 or 5.x release of some kind.

My one good contact at RIM is fed up with the place and leaving. Another one quit after having a kid, while his wife has stayed.

Anyone else I know there has quit / doesn't care enough about the company to bother knowing what's going on.

My best guess is that 5.0 is now final, so there's not much in the way to expect other than official updates for the next while.

My guess is that RIM was able to more tightly clamp down on the leaks.

It's a trickle, not a flood.

You do realize that RIM does not have a public beta program, right?
All of these "betas" you refer to aren't beta at all. They're illegally leaked copies of development code.

Just sayin'

so how does the individual who leaks the development code decide that say, .411 is stable over .410? im sure they have them marked or whatever. that to me, is a beta. and its good to leak these things. client/customer input is how apple rebuilt its brand from the toilet back in '97

I didn't say RIM doesn't have any beta program.. I said they didn't have a public one.
RIM seeds the development code to approved/certified recipients for testing and QA purposes.
This is likely done in a controlled way to protect their IP.
RIM then seeds versions of the OS directly to the wireless carrier for further testing and approval before it gets released to the public.

After all, the wireless carrier is RIM's customer... not you or me.
