ok i figured it out ... DUH!! but it still isnt working. I typed in javaloader -usb wipe after i pointed it to the javaloader.exe file. I think my problem is a little more complex. I have a 7290 and for some reason I have no color on it and no icons it is now in B&W. Not sure what happened. And now when I connect my bb and run my desktop manager it doesnt connect to my bb. How can I completely wipe everything out and reinstall the os?

javaloader -usb wipe will wipe it...

Plug it in, click on app loader in the desktop manager and it should get to installing then.

You use Javaloader to wipe it out. That is the tool.

What happens when you type in

javaloader -usb wipe

Make sure Desktop Manager is shut down and the BB is connected via the USB cable.

I have a feeling a lot of you aren't doing this right.
If you don't have the SDK, then you don't have Javaloader
If you are not at the command prompt in the directory that has javaloader in it. It won't work.

Reread this thread.

C:\Documents and Settings\CJuarbe>"C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerr
y JDE 4.0\bin\JavaLoader.exe"
Usage: JavaLoader [-usb] [-p<port>] [-b<baud>] [-d0|-d1] [-w<password>] [-i] [-q
] <command>
<command> is one of
dir [-d] [-s]
deviceinfo
load <file> ...
save <module> ...
info [-d] <file> ...
wipe [-f | -a]
erase [-f] <module> ...
debugmode
eventlog
settime
radio on|off
enum
siblinginfo <file> ...

C:\Documents and Settings\CJuarbe>javaloader -usb
'javaloader' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

Ok try this, it works for me sometimes without having to manually do the javaloader thing...

Start up desktop manager, then connect the device. If it doesn't say connected that's fine sometimes. That just means the OS is corrupt or non-existant.

Doubleclick application loader. It might popup a screen asking about connection info, select USB and click next/OK/whatever.

Now make sure you have your handheld software installed and know where it was installed. This should be under c:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Shared\Loader Files\[7100xxxxxxxxxx] Something along those lines. The last directory will be your handheld software though.

Navigate into that directory and highlight all the .alx files, then click OK. Now you should see the usual apploader screen with your OS listed with upgrade/install/whatever next to each option. Check what you want to install (probably everything), then continue with the install like normal.

If that DOESN'T work, you'll have to first install the java sdk to get javaloader on your computer. If someone here has some free space online, you might be able to ask them to host it long enough for you to download. Then try the javaloader -usb wipe deal (typing this from the same directory you downloaded javaloader.exe to) and then reinstall.

good luck!

ok I went through the steps that you just posted but heres the problem when I go to c:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Shared\Loader Files and select them bb desktop manager ... I already have all those files, so no changes are made. What I need to do is completely wipe everything out. As you can see from above I did the javaloader but I was getting an error message. I just have to figure out what it is I am doing wrong from the javaloader. This is why I posted the command prompts because I thought someone could decipher from it what I was doing wrong.

try this...

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.0\bin\JavaLoader.exe -usb wipe

EDIT: You might need quotes around it to recognize the spaces, or copy javaloader.exe to your home directory, or navigate to the directory with javaloader.exe in it and type the command from there.

this is what happens ...

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\CJuarbe>C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry
JDE 4.0\bin\JavaLoader.exe -usb wipe
'C:\Program' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

C:\Documents and Settings\CJuarbe>

now when i first open the command - it says C:\Documents and Settings\CJuarbe>

do i then just type in C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.0\bin\JavaLoader.exe -usb wipe?

do I have to put it in " " ?

I need instructions for a complete moron...lol.

See I knew you weren't doing it right.

You need to CD into that directory
cd "C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.0\bin"

Or you can enter the entire path as above with the javaloader.exe and add -usb wipe inside the quotes.

That will be a hefty bill, unless I get a mental handicap discount.

I've just been going through the same issues as listed above: Great advice there! However, I need some serious help fast; when I get to the javaloader I am unable to perform the action and am only getting the following text:

RIM Wireless Handheld Java Loader
Copyright 2001-2005 Research in Motion Limited
Connecting To Device...Error: unable to open port

The device is attached by the USB cable straight to my computer, and the display on the Blackberry is on the "Prefetch Exception" error.

fyi, I just started a new thread asking the same question, but thought I'd tag a short question onto the end here as well...

Thanks,
- Graham

A big nono for many instances of javloader is if the BB is connected via the USB Hub. THe device would have to be connected via USB directly to the pc usp port. If you have not tried that I would give it a shot. Also make sure your Desktop manager and Handheld software are turned off.

Bringing this back up from the dead. Installed Javaloader 4.1.

It's been sitting on this screen for the past 10min. Trying to wipe out a 7100 nextel. Hourglass has been spinning over 16hrs.
