Default enterprise activation failed server is not responding

Please Login to Remove!

I installed enterprise server express and added a user through blackberry manager.
I then generated email activation password. and plan to wirelessly connect.
I then use device to activate using password received in email.

I did receive a mail from [email address]. But then my device displayed error message; server is not responding, please contact system admin.

I have tried to figure out what's going on the whole night, but still can't.
Please please help.

The ETP message still sits in the inbox? If yes, your BES is not able to grab it and process it... check out KB-05202 "Support - Identifying and troubleshooting enterprise activation issues" to steps in troubleshooting

Thanks for the link, I have just read through it.

yes, the ETP.DAT still sits in my inbox. I received two ETP.DAT emails after it failed activating. And they stay in my inbox. I think my enterprise server can send email, but seems to have trouble receiving emails. I do suspect the admin account doesn't have enough permission. My exchange admin sayed he already granted read all permission. Is there way to verify it?

Thanks a bunch.

Default Wireless activation failed, but desktop activation succeeded

After numerous tries and failures, I decide to install desktop software and do the initial activation through desktop. It actually works fine. So it means admin account has no problem.

But it is not practical for corporate use. In my corporate, I have users working in linux, how can they do the sync then. And my BES is on a virtual server, I don't have physical access to it, so I cannot connect blackberry to BES Server also. The best way is through wireless activation. But I just cannot get wireless activation working, how frustrating. Can anyone please please please shred a light on this?

Default Wireless Enterprise Activation failed: Server is not responding

for what its worth, check our permissions which the BES service account has on the user account objects. The Service Account requires elevated access to pull in, act on and process the activation on a user account and mailbox object.

In exchange system manager Exc2003, delegation:
Blackberry Service account needs delegated to Exchange View only in Exchange 2003 (send as, receive as and administer information store)

Blackberry Service account needs Send As rights on User Objects in Active Directory at the container where the objects exist.

Remove the user from the blackberry server, verify it has cleared and add the user back, set the Wireless EA password and try activation from the device again. It should send the ETP message to the inbox, process it and start activation.
See link below for Installation for BES Exchange 4.14

Livelink - Redirection

Good Luck.

it might help but sometimes this prob is caused by other probs

Just my 2 Cents - I had a similar problem. I check every setting I could think of and read all the posts.

The answer was - my user had setup filtering in his Outlook. So what happed was - the email came in and sat in his Inbox. Check the users SPAM filtering rules.

Another $.02 - Delete all those ETP messages from the Inbox and also Deleted Items before trying again, their presence can be the cause of future failures.

I had this problem all yesterday and the reason the message stayed in the inbox was because the MAPI profile could not be opened to "scan" or whatever it does to scoop up the message.

Reason? Someone hid the besadmin account from the GAL in active directory. Unhide it, wait a minute then re-add the user to the BES and try activating again. Boom, it worked like a champ afterwards.

Hi Guys,

I've tried all the above.
the config file gets picked up but still can't activate a 8310.
If I put the sim in a 8100 it works fine!!! activates within minutes.
are there known issues with the 8310?

If you 8310 is not working then the device is not provisioned properly. you could contact your carrier and make sure it is provissioned for BES.

Provisioning is done at the SIM card level, so if the SIM card works in the 8100 then it is not the SIM.

I take it that you activated the 8100 on the same user account?

If it is the same user account and SIM card, then need to look at the activation procedure for an issue.

Try starting from a clean slate, wipe the 8310, remove the user from the BES, deleting any BlackBerry information and re add the user.
Also would recommend using Set Activation password over the generate activation password email as you can set it to something simple to remove another possibility of error.

Wiping the handheld and recreating the user from scratch didn't work.
I ended up activating on another 8310 and then changing sims. that worked but I still don't know how. Thanks for your help!!
