Hello All,

I'm embarking on my first BES installation and am running into a few problems. I'll start w/the specifics - hosting BES on a VM, Win2k3, fully patched. Each time I run the BB Enterprise Server Configuration, I get to the point of inputting the SRP info, validating the info, and then click next and get the following message:

BESProfile
MAPIInitialize (80004005) OK.

I click on Ok and get the following:

The MAPI subsystem cannot be correctly initialized and used. Please make sure MAPI is installede and configured properly. OK.

I'm not hosting the BES on the same server as the Exchange server, which is Exchange 2003. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance for advice.

Did you read the manual? Did you first install the MAPI Subsystem before Installing the BlackBerry Server Software (in otherwords, install Exchange System Manager and apply Service Pack 1).

What version is the mapi32.dll on the BES server and Exchange server? They should be the same...
It has been a while since I have done the install but did you register the cdo.dll file that you will find in the Exchsrvr directory on your bes server?
For example.... regsvr32 "D:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\cdo.dll"

Hopefully this will start some juices flowing....

CDO won't allow for a successful MAPI session. You still haven't answered if Exchange is in the VM session. If not then you will need to install ESM.

Here is one possibility that I ran into when I had the same issue:

I had started the BES install using the besadmin user. During the install, a reboot is required and then the install continues. After the reboot, I logged in with another admin account out of habit and continued with the install. I then had the same problem as the original poster and could not continue the install.

Finally, I rebooted and then I relealized my error and logged in with besadmin user. This time when the setup was continue, I was prompted for my excahnge credentials/ mapi settings and all worked well.

Hopes this 'doh' moment helps someone else.

I too am installing BES Express 4.1 for the first time. The server I am installing BES on does not have Exchange installed. It is installed on another server, so how do I tell BES about my Exchange server?

You have to install exchange system manager so it gets the mapi and cdo stuff. Then it'll bring up the standard add an email profile dialog box during the install.

Don't forget to install the same service pack as you have on your exchange server.

I have installed ESM 2003 and SP1 and am still getting the errors. Any ideas?

The service account needs to have a mailbox created for itself. Creating it using AD wudnt do. Create a mailbox for the service account too.
