Default BB 9300 3G and Desktop Manager

Please Login to Remove!

So here is the deal....

Picked up a BB 9300 3G, and wanted to transfer my contacts.

1. Does not pair with my Nokia E50 on Bluetooth protocol.
2. When I connect to the Blackberry Desktop Manager (tried versions 5.7 and 6) the software just hangs. I left it for 45 minutes but nothing happens. Not sure what the issue is here.

Any other method to get my contacts to the Curve BB. I managed to transfer the Nokia contacts to Outlook contacts, text file and csv file.

Any idea why the Desktop Manager hangs when I link up the BB.

Thanks....!

So Desktop Manager is fine until you connect the BlackBerry to the computer?

What exactly do you see when it hangs? Any messages?

FYI if you have a password set on the BlackBerry and it is locked, you must unlock the BlackBerry, not just enter the password in desktop manager.

Thanks for the reply.

This is how it looks like. And the exact same thing is happening what happened to the user in the link given.

How DTM looks when grayed out:
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Hard..._26369223.html

Yes, the DTM is perfectly fine till I link up the device. As soon as both USB cable ends are connected, it grays out. I do get the device PIN number at the bottom, but I cannot click any where.

Regarding "locked status", I am able to use the BB hand held normally. Not set any password, just running it out-of-the-box.

Any other insights..?

Don't know. I searched, got a number of hits, read some suggestions, but didn't see an exact solution and explanation of the problem.

For what it's worth, see http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ml#post1623040. Bottom line in that thread is the OP successfully upgraded the OS and all was fine.

Just as a SWAG, you might try a security wipe and then see if you can connect properly, but only if you have a backup file so that you can selectively restore your data afterwards.

Okay...

Will try the security wipe else upgrade the OS to the BB. If I do a security wipe and my BB has nothing on it, do I still need to take a backup of anything...?

How will I update the BB software if I cannot sync to the DTM. And what version is good to upgrade too..?

If you can't connect you won't be able to backup...but I gathered the BlackBerry is new to you and doesn't have anything of yours on it anyway, right?

See the two articles at blackberryfaq.com on using JL_CMDR. That will be helpful if you conclude you need to wipe the device first. But read the directions on using loader.exe instead of desktop manager.

I don't have opinions on OS versions. You can use the latest version released by you carrier, or just go with the latest official release for your model posted in the sticky on the forum.

Thanks a lot for the help and information. Today I tried it without the carrier SIM module. And it connected just dandy....! Was able to sync with MS Outlook and pull out my contacts.

Thanks again.

Hope moderators can close out this thread. Solved.

Removing the SIM was all it took?

And as things stand, does the problem happen again when you reinstall the SIM?

Yes, that is all it took.

But when I connect the device with the SIM inside, again it grays out. This is what I get.

Not really sure what is happening here.

Could it be an issue due to Win 7 Ultimate -- 64BIT..?

I really don't know.

There was an upgrade for desktop manager just released. I think I noticed it this last Saturday. if you are not running the latest, do the upgrade and try again.

But I'm stumped.

Stumped just like you are. Guess will run updates using no-sim.

Thanks, friend...!

Post an update if you figure it out.

I'm wondering what would happen if you tried it with another SIM card.

Also, did you happen to try it with your SIM but on another computer?

The only thing I can thing of is that desktop manager now checks to see the the device is on a blackberry data plan (i.e. it won't allow an upgrade to OS ver 5 without one). This isn't an answer, but I wonder if there is some issue with your SIM that in turn is causing desktop manager to hang. Seems desktop manager should handle it, but I don't know. It's all I can think of.

Will try those things out when I get time, makes sense.

By the way, my carrier SIM is a year 2001 issue...! Could that be jinxing it..? Far fetched. But ya, there is some bug in there.
