Default BES Enterprise Activation and Manual Backups

Please Login to Remove!

Quick and dirty question.

If I do a full backup of a handheld via Desktop Manager, wipe the handheld and then activate it again, and drop the backed up data back on the handheld will it affect the new activation (including IT Policy etc) ?

Welcome to the forums.

No, it will not. However, the BES should restore the settings via the wireless backup, unless you remove the user from the BES during this process.

Thanks for the quick reply. Now, do you know of a way to bring EVERYTHING of a users to be back the way it was, including the look and feel and background picture and icon choices after a wipe?

Quick history. We're moving users from a BES attached to a Lotus Notes mail server to one connecting to an Exchange 2007 server. We're migrating the accounts from Notes to Exchange using transporter. We wanted to move the BB accounts from one BES to another, but have been told categorically by BB Support that we can't use BB Transporter to do this...it won't go from Lotus to Exchange or vice-versa.

So we're left moving everything from Lotus to Exchange, and then deleting the old BB account on the old BES, adding the User to the new BES, and reactivating from there. Since there are differences inside the IT Policies being pushed, we can't just do a re-activation. We have to do a wipe first.

You could do the restore prior to activating the device on the BES again. But, like I said, the BES does a wireless backup. Do, what you're more comfortable with.
