Default Transferring files - Bandwidth usage?

Please Login to Remove!

I was transferring some music files from my external hard drive to my playbook (both devices were connected to my computer, the computer was sort of a middleman in this process) and my bandwidth monitoring program showed a huge spike in bandwidth usage.

Being in Canada, I have to monitor how much bandwidth I use because we have metered internet here, and being close to my monthly limit, I have to be careful I don't go over the limit

Anyways, my question is, does the file transfer process use any bandwidth at all or is it just my program reacting incorrectly? I turned off the wifi on my computer, but I want to play it safe, internet access is expensive here

Since you had both devices connected to computer, the transfer does not require any kind of internet connection. I don't think that spike is related to your transfer. Were you using the Blackberry Desktop Software to transfer?

I dragged and dropped the files from my music folder to the PB's "music" folder that showed up underneath the computer folder

I would imagine that no internet connection is required to transfer files because I turned the wifi off, but I can't figure out why my bandwidth program spiked like that. It showed a spike in uploading, not download, if that matter at all.

Anyways, it's almost April anyways so i'll just finish the transfer some other time. Thanks for the help

The PlayBook connection to a PC over USB uses a protocol called TCP/IP over USB so it will look like network traffic to your PC. So unless your monitoring software descriminates between different network connections this traffic could be lumped in with internet traffic.
