Will the Playbook bridge be faster with the 9900?
Please Login to Remove!
I currently run a playbook and bridge it to my 9800 with AT&T.
Will the browser be faster using a 9900 on "4G" or is blue tooth going to limit the speed?
Thanks,
Jeff

I wasn't aware any competitors had a bridge feature. Who are they? I would love to compare against the speed of Blackberry's bridge speed.
Back to my original question, Can I expect faster internet etc by switching from a 9800 to a 9900. (3G vs 4G)?
Thanks,
Jeff

Well Bluetooth 2.0 is limited to 3Mbit/s (data rate) and 2.1Mbit/s (Max application throughput) and with 4G HSPA+ being as much as 42Mbit/s on paper your bluetooth is going to be the bottle neck not matter how you look at it.
So will it be faster? NO!

Can they increase bluetooth data rates through future software updates or are we first generation playbook owners out of luck?

I have that combination and don't necessarily see a big difference. However, I have noticed that it is far more stable and have virtually no connection drops. So, to me it works very well and am pleased with it.

i have the 9800 and when the 9860 came out i jumped right on that one and from what i can see using it with my playbook i do notice that interaction with bridge files and email is faster and surfing web is also quicker then the 9800.

Might be the 9860 has a faster CPU to process BT and Bridge requests faster

I have a Playbook 64gb and 9900 Rogers H+, it is not blazing fast but even in the bus i find it quite acceptable since it use the bridge browser, of course streaming videos lags a bit...other than that, knowing it use the Bluetooth i'm quite pleased.

I know with my 9810 and Rogers HSPDA+, I would only get lag when streaming HD Video, streaming SD Video I get no lag.
The lag, if anything, is probably caused by the Bluetooth connection.
Cheers,

What would be great is if a new BB handset could be setup as a WiFi hotspot. I haven't heard of that feature coming though.

It can with OS 7.1
The SP will charge you for that extra feature, unfotunately...
