Default Car Chargers

Please Login to Remove!

I have a Blackberry Curve and have upgraded to a 9800 Torch. My car charger worked fine on the Curve but a screen message pops up on the Torch to say that the charger cannot charger the phone and that I must use a USB to charge it.
What is different? Why will the Blackberry car charger not work on the Torch?

the torch usb is smaller than the curve you will have to buy a new charger or a reducer for your current charger

Actually, if the user is moving from a Curve 8520 or Curve 9300, or Curve 8900, they all three make use of the same Micro-USB charger. Older Curves like the 8300/8301/8320 use the slightly larger Mini-USB charger.

Seems odd. A usb charger putting out other than 5 volts would be some strange shit. Why else would the phone care? Current? I seriously doubt it. I think your charger is jacked.

Thanks for your input, the old phone was a Curve 8900 and the Micro USB end of the cable fits the Torch perfectly. It also charges the Curve from the car lighter socket so the charger itself is, or seems fine. There must be something I am missing, I will have to plug the Torch in again and write down the full message.

Don't doubt it, that's the correct answer. Some USB chargers put out insufficient current to charge the Torch (it appears to require more than the various Curves. I have a couple AC Micro-USB chargers which will not successfully charge the Torch - I get the same message when plugging it into those chargers.

Thanks for your answer, I suppose I will have to look for a new charger for the car now.

Pennies (slight exaggeration) on eBay. One I bought there works flawlessly all the time.
