Software For BlackBerry® Torch 9800 smartphone
This will install to any carrier's 9800 model by following the instructions below.

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Instructions for installing on the 9800:
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process may take up to 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

Anybody get this to install on the device? I removed the vendor.xml file but DM and AppLoader both behave as if I don't have any device software installed.

when your upgrade says " no device software installed" its because it can not detect your device. Unplug/disconnect, refresh your screen and reconnect your device. [ you need to see the device software installed successfully] and it should work

Some over on CrackBerry (where there's considerably more feedback about this new OS) seem to be having the same problem. This posted solution from over there:

If you're having this issue, you need to delete the contents of the AppLoader folder. (That's the folder where you found Vendor.)

1. Uninstall the OS: Control Panel>Programs and Features, highlight this BlackBerry Device Software, click Uninstall at top.
2. Delete AppLoader folder contents: Highlight any item, CTRL+A to select all, SHIFT+DELETE to permanently delete.
3. Restart PC.
4. Re-install OS on PC: Go to your browser's downloads section, double-click OS to start InstallShield Wizard.
5. Delete Vendor: Return to AppLoader folder, highlight Vendor, SHIFT+DELETE.
6. Load OS to BB: Attach BB to PC, double-click Loader (in AppLoader folder, where you deleted Vendor).

I was going to try DallasFlier's proceedure next, but tried on my work PC first and got it installed. Strange, but true.

I have tried to download this about 6 times in the last few days and all efforts have stopped short of the approx 194mb file size. Any attempt to install receives an initialization error, likely because the file is incomplete.

I think all attempts have been with the new Firefox 7.0.1 I will downgrade firefox and try again.

Anyone tried to load the latest OS posted?

Just curious as when I tried it indicated that the software was older than this one because the Software Version is 236 and this one is 241. The overall package is newer.

I didn't bother loading it because of that.

try using IE instead of firefox.

When I try to install it, it display no update for your device, I don't know what to do. I used the JL Cmder to wipe my phone and now the phone is totally useless,pls help
