Default battery woes on the Torch continue....

Please Login to Remove!

Hello All,

Picked up the Torch on launch day, love the phone going from the 8900.

However, my battery life is TERRIBLE! I consider myself a medium user and I can only get about 6-7 hours off a charge during the day and last night I charged it full and this morning 9 hours later (no use) it was a 34%.

I exchanged the battery yesterday and it didn't seem to help. They have offered to exchange the phone. I would rather not go through the hassle if there's another solution.

Could this be a hardware/software issue I'm having? I haven't really read about anyone else having these problems.

I do leave on my bluetooth and wifi but got 2+ days with my 8900 using the same habits.

Thanks,

Jeff

The issue with the battery is if you use the social feeds the device is constantly communicating with the network getting updates for facebook, twitter, ECT this make the battery life signafantly shorter. My wife has to charge her Backflip everyday for the same reason.

Thanks, but I don't use the social feeds and have deleted them from the unit.

Other ideas?

that's strange. I use bluetooth, and my WiFi, but I dont leave them on, I make sure I turn the moff when I am done. From full charge yesterday morning, at 5am till this morning at 5am, I had about 40% left.

I used iheart Radio on my WiFi, for about 15 minutes both yesterday and today, my BT while in my car, about 20-30 minute rides to/from work, and while out running errands yesterday evening about 2/3 hours. And while I was home and at work I was constantly sending receiving emails, and the social feeds. I have turned the social feeds notification off as that was just getting annoying. And when I had the time, I would do some surfing from the device on 3G and on WiFi to test it out more.

By the end of the night, around 11pm, I was at 50% and I fell a sleep with the WiFi on, and device auto on/off is set as well, and I forgot to plug it in. Woke up and was at around 40%, if I recall correctly.

I am getting really decent battery usage from mine. 24+ hours on a charge.

I actually had to take my first unit back. I did have a strange charging issue when charging using the wall adapter. I noticed that my port on my 9800 was very touchy. While I was holding the device, I noticed the battery would pop up and disappear. After some tapping, and whatnot, I noticed it was the port, so I had to exchange it.

Fairly simple fix...Its the 3G! The 8900 is an edge only device, the Torch is 3G. However you can switch the Torch to run on edge. Just go to Manage connections, scroll to Mobile network options, and click on network mode...Should increase battery life a great deal!

So your saying that in 3G, I should only expect 6-7 hours of life out of the Torch?????

Last night I turned off wifi and bluetooth and left the unit with 50% charge. This morning it was completelty dead. That was 7.5 hours of non use.

I left BT and wifi on all last night and after 11 hours i still show 75%.

You might be going from EDGE to 3G and that causes it to lose battery fast, like in less than 2 hours. My 9700 will do this at inlaws since they live at the beach at the end of the signal/weakest range. If I set it to 2G only. My battery will last all night. it is not the devices fault you are in a crappy signal area (if this is the issue).

How is the signal in your area?

like it was already mentioned, if you are in a questionable area, going back and forth can kill the battery on it own.

I am in a strong 3G covered area, as well.

I'm actually in a great area and problem isn't just at home. Its all day. I just unplugged the phone 10 minutes ago and have lost 5% and I'm parked next to a ATT tower. Wifi is still turned off too.

Thanks,

Jeff

have you been in the options-device-application manager to see if you have some cpu hogging apps running?
