Has anyone heard if 8700 model will be offered by Verizon? If so, what is expected the ETA?

The 8700 is a GSM/GPRS/EDGE device and will have to be completely redesigned to work on Verizon Wireless' CDMA/EVDO network. Since they just came out with the 7130 form factor, I don't think there is anything in the foreseeable future. Just a guess on my part. But Verizon is always last with everything BlackBerry.

I agree. But maybe a version of the 8700 (form factor and keyboard) will be out this summer. Gotta believe the 7250 will soon be removed from their offerings...... anyway its all speculation.

Any particular reasons you believe this?

The phone is less than a year old with Verizon, and it is working great why would they stop offering it, to replace it with the 8700v.

You didnt see Cingular or Rogers for that matter retire their 7290s to make room for the 8700 and that is even an older unit than the 7250.

Cant they co-exist? Do you think that every 7250 owner is going to go running to get an 8700, some of us do not like the size or the feel of it, despite all the other improvements and nicer screen. I for one do not see myself switching unles they decide to make it on the 7250 case format, which I do not see happening.

You are correct. The 7250 came out in April 2005 and it will probably remain available for the rest of this year. What will determine its demise is RIM's direction to develop more consumer-type devices (although I never see a BB with a camera).

Its just a logical step. I can tell you that Verizon has been overly surprised at the take rate of the 7130e. I have many friends who work for VZW saying many stores ran out of the initial units (some stores got 200). And, believe it or not, some of the early Treo 700w buyers have returned them for the 7130.

Its the carriers that determine some of RIM's developmental course, like Cingular and T-MO. Verizon is trying to get more of the business community. Time will tell.....

Just an FYI, I bought my 7250 in February of 2005 and I'm not a business customer.

Why would it have to be redesigned? Do you mean internally or externally? The 7290 and 7250 are the same dimensions.

They use completely different chipsets.
They would have to be redesigned INTERNALLY.

Where they the same size as the current 8700 or are they closer to the 7250?
