Tracking & Logging Blackberry usage
Please Login to Remove!
(Exch2k BES4.0)
Blackberrys are very useful tools of course. But companies also need to justify whether a person needs a blackberry or is it more of a status device.
I would like to know if anyone is actively statistically monitoring Email traffic AND voice traffic from Blackberrys in a BES environment. I looked at PERFMON on my BES4 server and i can see that i can track "# of msgs sent/min" and things like that, but nothing specific.
I would like to track PER USER with a blackberry:
-Number of emails received broken down to each hour of the day.
-Number of emails replied (forwarded/RepAll) broken down to each hour of the day.
-Number of emails composed broken down to each hour of the day.
-Number of voice calls received, duration, and time of day. (Caller ID not needed)
-Number of calls made, duration and time of day. (phone number not needed)
I know that some customized programming in Outlook will probably do the trick to track emails, and that i could look at the phone log in each berry, but i want/need a centralized solution so that i can have all the data in near-realtime.
Anyone have any comments that would help me with this? Do you see the need for this level of statistical software too? Does it already exist?

does anyone have any other competing products?

It doesn't currently log phone statistics. i guess that would require a java app on the blackberries. Here is what the company said:
**************************************
Thanks for your email. NeedTEXT Monitor does have a reporting console and does collect a number of usage statistics at the user level. Typically this information is used, as you mention, to identify:
+ least active users
+ most active users
+ devices that are assigned but have literally not been used for weeks
The information and statistics collected is centered around email and data packet usage and does not currently cover mobile phone usage (time of call, rates, etc..) I have logged your suggestions as a feature request that will be looked at by our product development team. In the interim, if you feel the current functionality may be beneficial, we would be happy to provide you with a free evaluation. Alternatively, we can notify you when cell usage statistics reporting and collection is available in the product.
I have attached an overview of the current product for your reference.
Thanks & Best Regards,

Also phone has nothing to do with your BES, only IT policy has effect.

BES 4.1 will offer Phone Call logging. It's yet to be seen how this information will be presented though. There are numerous people here who have said they are on the 4.1 beta so they should be able to answer that.
