Default Move BES Server to New VMWare Server

Please Login to Remove!

I am looking for some advice for moving our current 2K3 server running 5.0.1.58 to the new Virtual server I created (2008 64bit SR2).

I only have one license for BES and would love if I could avoid having to run enterprise activation for all 50+ users.

I am using SQL SRVR 2005 on the local BES server and plan to keep that the same when moving to the new server.

Thanks in advance.

Here's what I do...

Write down your srp and key info.

Install bes to exact same patch level on new server and DONT start services, then stop and disable bes on old server.

Backup besmgmt database from old server, restore it to new server and start services. You should be up and running without having to reactivate as long as you use the same besmgmt database from the old server.

If you are not using the same server name on the new server you will have to edit a few tables in the db after you restore it...

You should be able to get everything prepped with old server running and only stop message flow for a few minutes while you switch off old services and switch on new ones. Make damn sure you don't let services start on both boxes at the same time or rim will lock out your srp.

If you need more details or remote assistance let me know

End all BB and SQL services and mark them as disabled.
P2V the server
Reboot as often as required to detect all new devices
Remove all old devices.
Restart services.
