If there's anyone with a pre release 8300 could you please comment on the camera and the picture quality or could you post a few pics taken by the camera on the 8300?

Have you tried page scanning with it? That's what I'd like a camera phone for most.

From what I have seen, Blackberry has had trouble with their camera's. Although this is certain to change with time and experience, they are definately behind. Other producers such as palm, have cameras that can rival some actual cameras.

And, I would think it partially has to do with Blackberries image isn't specifically for the the picture phone quality anyway. Yes, it is an added feature that may inspire and increase some target markets but your typical business type phone won't be needing a camera for daily office operations.

True, most users will find they use it for random moments. Serious camera addicts may want to consider another device or an additional device.
However, it is still nice to have a camera around when you need it for the priceless moment, regardless of the quality.

Everyone complains about the camera so I just assume it will be usable and nothing more...

Usable is likely the best we can expect. These cameras are never at any great resulotion and with the tiny lens we can't expect too much. These images were ment to be sent via your Blackberry so they got to keep the file sizes low.
I am wanting the 8300 keyboard and having a camera will be nice but I doubt I will ever use it!

I often wish I had a camera on my Berry. Not for any serious photography, but for that quick shot that inevitably I don't have my camera for.

You have to be thinking of another manufacturer right? Surely, you don't mean Palm as they probably have some of the worst cameras in their phones, every Treo of theirs actually. Nokia is on point with their cameras.

Precisely!... I nearly always carry a digital camera for taking photos. Therefore a camera on my phone is not at the top of my list. But then again...

It Never fails, the one time I don't carry it... it would be nice to have a camera built into the BB of decent quality for those spur of the moment snaps!
Cheers...

Then you will like the camera on the Blackberry. I had one on my Pearl and it DID come in quite handy with surprising quality if lighting was good. I am using a 8800 now with no camera and do not miss it but if given a choice, sure I would like it on there too!

Actually I think that the palm cameras are not all that bad. Great, far from it, but better than RIM from what I have seen. Ok, maybe par with RIM. The best camera PDA I ever possessed was and HTC Wizard. Great camera and decent PDA features.

If the pearl and 8300 have comparable cameras, would someone mind trying a page scan with a pearl for me? I carry a camera everyday for basically this purpose alone and I'd love to be able to replace that with a camera phone, I've attached an example of the quality I can get from my camera.
