Default Bell Changes Bridging Plan

Please Login to Remove!

I got my PB last month and the first thing it made me do was update the OS. Then I tried out bridging for a couple of days. So now I have a huge Bell bill because my unlimited data plan does not cover bridging. According to my sales rep, with the new version of the OS, they (Bell) can't tell the difference between bridging (which used to be covered) and tethering (which is not). Nice of them to warn us.

Anyone else have this happen?

No problems bridging on my Bell device. You sure your plan wasn't changed? I would complain....loudly.

Update from our rep says she may have got the information wrong. She is getting further clarification from her technical contacts within Bell and RIM to figure this out.

The trick may be to separate bridging and tethering on my PB. They both seem to activate at the same time. So even if I stay within the Bridge window on the PB, other apps may see the internet connection go live over the tether and start transferring data.

It has been a while since I had to use this, someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but IIRC non-bridge apps on the playbook can use the bridge to get access to the internet via the BlackBerry. There is really no need to use tethering with a BlackBerry device, it is more of a support feature for those who have a PlayBook and a non-BlackBerry phone.
