Default Arizona Parents Sue Over Kids' Bath Pictures

I couldn't imagine being these parents. Losing your kids for a month over bathtime pictures?! The mother also was suspended from her job for a year during the investigation too.

Well, from the article, it seems to me like it was a bit more than bath time baby pictures. Hard to judge or comment just based on these two links. Also unfair.

This is terrible. I hope the parents win the lawsuits. Walmart should have that policy posted and make it highly visible.

Meanwhile, purveyors of real child porn go unapprehended for years.

oh poor parents. i hope they win. it's so unfair that something they thought was so innocent was misconstrued to be 'pornographic' or 'provocative'.

yea, but technically, if the parents were just taking pictures of 'bath time' i don't see anything wrong with it. secondly, if the parents knew they were doing something wrong, would they so openly submit the pictures to walmart for developing?

Unless they're sick, mentally twisted paedophiles, they've done nothing wrong. the employee did raise a panic alarm, but they should have said something to the parents perhaps? i mean, they've LOST THEIR KIDS!!

Not sure where I stand on this one...

in the '50s and earlier, the cute naked baby laying on his/her belly on a rug was cute...

in the '90s with digital cameras, who knows.

I've taken 'bath time' photos of my grandkids playing in the tub - certainly no harm intended... occasionally you get a shot of something you shouldn't... so just delete the offending picture... there are plenty more shots of the kids playing, their faces, etc.

IMO, there's no need for "full monty" shots of anyone, especially innocent children... but how do you differentiate between an accidental shot and something more onerous/intentional/sick? Obviously there are clues as to the intent (a single shot out of 5 or 6 vs 6 out of 6)... but one can never be 100% certain.

The really "funny" part about this is that the Arizona CPS policy manual states that they need to do "everything possible" to avoid removing children from the home... and in some obviously abusive situations, they err on the side of leaving the kids with the parents - sometimes to devastating results... and on the other hand, you get this kind of stuff.

My wife has a very good friend who is a unit supervisor for AZ CPS... so we know this stuff first hand... but most of the time, it just doesn't seem to make sense.

I have a friend that is serving 10 years for child pornography. The pictures were of bath time, nothing showing but the face and above the breast area. The world has gone stupid. I hope the parents win both law suits. They should name every one in the photo dept because i am sure they all discussed it

the problem lies in the fact that what one person sees as totally harmless, may be perceived as twisted/sick/onerous (quote: fonejunkie).. now how does one determine that?

I stand by my point where i said that if the walmart employees truly felt that something was off in those pics, they should have spoken to the parents first, before doing what they did. it's a case of misconstruing something harmless into a full blown lawsuit.

the world has lost it's sense of right and wrong.

Again totally open to interpretation one may find it offensive and someone else may not!

I am all for protecting kids but it has gotten to the point of ridiculous... Parents can't photograph their children now, they can't spank em on the butt in a store when they are throwing a fit... ect...

If the photos are as described, then that is pathetic! I would have to see them before I could pass judgment but then they'd book me for looking at the photos, so I will pass...

Sad real sad... I hope they get 14 billion from Walmart if the photos really are innocent and just of bath time...
