Default Question for email power users with the storm.

Please Login to Remove!

This looks to be my perfect device, I have had a 8830 (Alltel) for years and love all but the web browser (which I need to run my business, a REAL browser as I own and operate 3 ecomm websites along with a very large eBay business). I use my 8830 to answer 50-100 emails/messages day.

Any personal use feedback would be great, especially that from users that switched from 8800 series or the latter.

FYI: I have yet to even hold a storm , just reading reviews that are keeping me from even considering the phone because of the issues with typing.

TIA

I had a Curve 8310 before, I am much slower on the storm. But in fact the biggest problem is, that the device software is often verry slow and has positioning problems (finger on the left side BB shows it on the right), the only working solutions are to wait or to remove the battery.

I just choose it, because I can choose a new device in september, so if the storm OS is not as good, as I think it needs to be until than, I select a device with a physical keyboard again.

on my Curve 8310 I had the 4.5 OS installed, it brings a usable browser. So if you need to mail a lot the storm is not the right device. (but the bolds keyboard is at least not as good as the one of the curves)

I think it is the best to update your 8830 to 4.5 first and test if the newer browser fits your needs. You will just have to google for "4.5.0.101 8830".

Hi,

I've got a storm and i LOVE IT!!!

Couple things.

1. I use the browser EVERYDAY to access EBAY, GrandCentral, WeatherUnderground, GoogleMaps, Craigslist, Experts-Exchange, Crackberry, and last but not least, this forum. NO PROBLEMS!!

2. As far as email goes. In the two weeks that I've had this device I've sent/received over 600 emails. I run the tech-support division for 5 studios here on the Island of Oahu as well as running open tech-support through craigslist. So I respectfully disagree with reelgator

EDIT I meant to say I disagree with Thoand

3. And for typing. Of course you are going to be slower from at the beginning as you get used to it. But unless you're a really old dog the new trick thing will kick in after a week. The more you use it the faster you become. Its just like anything else.

4. The "Positioning problems" don't exist on my Storm! And if it did, verizon would overnight me another one if i ask. They'd do the same for you I'm sure.

5. This phone will kick the pants off of the 8830 as far as media. Yeah yeah i know, you don't use it for media. Thats because the 8830 sucks for media. But since I got the Storm, I've sold my ipod and watched the entire 4th season of MI-5 on my phone on the way to and fro.

6. Trust No One. Order the phone from Verizon and commit to using it for 21 days! It will feel different!! Thats because it is! But if at the end of the 21 days you aren't happy with the storm, you will still have 9 days to return it to Verizon and you'll just have to pay the restocking fee. Its like renting it for $1 a day.

My take is that the learning curve is steep, but if you're willing to give yourself about a month to get acquainted with the device, os & input method, you'll likely enjoy the device. It took me at least three weeks before I could type with decent speed and accuracy.

Thanks berry_blue , with your input I will give it a shot. Sounds like we both would/do use the storm in the same manner and the learning curve is to be expected. And I would love to lose my mp3 player

@berry_blue

3. but you will never be as fast as on a physical keyboard

4. you are right if I tell Vodafone what happens, they will replace my device (was unsure if it might help, but as you do not have this problem I will give them a try)
