Both are made with excellent leather.
What is the exact diameter of the largest portion of the metal tab/stud on the back of the case? I ask only because I would like to continue using my generic Belkin car mount/clip, but the Fortte tab looks much smaller than that used with typical belt clips.

You'd probably want to e-mail Fortte customer service with that one. I can't measure the "exact" diameter. Sorry.

If I had to venture a guess, it's about 1/2" or slightly less

Default 8700 carrying cases

Just got my first bb, 8700c, and looking for a good case. Liked the comments on several here, but has anyone tried one that is horizontal for the 8700? I have friend with other models of bb using them and they really like them over the vertical.

I don't see many horizontal cases being used, but that's just me. And be sure you ask yourself if you want the device to be "exposed" (without any case protection) when out of the holster. That is the time when I decide to drop the thing on pavement - when it is OUT of the holster! I am always fine when in holster! Anyway, just be sure you want that feature as opposed to a case that stays on the device all the time...

Why is the closure piece on the top necessary at all (unless you are upside down)?

The nice thing about the 72xx caes is that yo can drop the unit in and out.

So, lgreenberg, I've been following all these case reviews for a while, now I've narrowed it down to either the Fortte Vertical Pouch Case or the Nutshell tab-top. Do you favor one over the other for daily use?

I'm leaning toward the Fortte because I like the magnetic closure and the option of having a swivel clip, but maybe the velcro on the Nutshell isn't so bad, and if the Nutshell has a thinner profile, than that might be a plus... decisions, decisions... I guess I could get both...

I prefer the Fortte.

It's not an easy choice though.

Although the Nutshell is slimmer it's also wider so it seems larger.

I really prefer the swivel clip of the Fortte. But the clip on the Nutshell is more secure. It's next to impossible for the Nutshell to come of your belt. The clip is that strong.

The velcro closure on the Nutshell isn't a big deal for me but I do like the magnetic lock on the Fortte better.

You really can't miss with either. Truth be told I've only been using the Fortte. The Nutshell's sitting in my drawer.

Has anyone actually removed the metal "knob" that the belt clip attaches to? I would like to do this, as I have no intention of using the clip and just want to carry it in my pocket.

I just oredered the Fortte Open Face PDA case for the 8700 last night and it shows that it shipped today. I'm really hoping that I will enjoy that style case. I was contemplating buying the open face pda style case or the vertical style pda case. Lgreenberg has bought a couple of these cases so they must be better than some of the others that he has tried.

Good review, Lgreenberg.

I would suggest waiting for the OEM Leather Pouch which I am guessing is likely to be released within the next month or two.

I don't think the clip is removable.

It's not removable, but you can order it without the clip. The diameter of the "Button" is right at 8cm and it is TOO SMALL for the universal belt clip like with the Krussel.

The "button" is steel and is sewn into the case very well - it will not break or rip out. I'd advise you to order an extra belt clip to be included (cheaper shipping) with your order. However, I've had mine for 2 months now and haven't broken the clip yet - and I'm 225 and broke 3 Krussel cases (clips)
I love the Fortte.

I know the button on the Fortte case isn't removable. I own two of them,

I was speaking about the RIM pouch which the person whom I quoted suggested waiting for.

Just got my nutshell case, and I prefer it over my Fortte. The Fortte is nice but I don't like the swivel clip, they need to get a ratcheting clip.

I got the open pouch Nutshell with no belt loop or clip. So now I can just carry the phone in my pocket.

I just received my open face pda case with clip for the 8700c. I received my case in two days with UPS ground shipping. It fits like a glove and I don't have to keep removing my bb from the case to use it, which is a plus. I don't care for the swivel clip because it moves 360 degrees freely on my belt clip. The clip is removable, so it doesn't have to be used. I will post pictures for anyone that is interested in seeing how the open face pda case looks.

Thanks lgreenberg for suggesting the fortte case. I'm very satisfied.

Absolutely post some pics phillyslickster.

I'm toying with the idea of ordering one of these myself and would like to see it.

Thanks for posting them.

My only concern is the lack of screen protection. I can't see myself carrying this on my belt for fear of damaging the screen. Countertop or desktop corners could be a big hazzard.

I guess If I were to order one it'll be without the clip and will be carried in my pocket only. The case really reminds me of the Vaja Ivolution case I had for my Treo 650.

You can purchase screen protectors for your 8700c. All that I have seen need to be trimmed. I have some left over from my Treo 650 and trimmed those to fit on my 8700 screen.
