Default Help me decide...get a storm?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all, I'm due for an upgrade now and it comes at a good time as my Pearl's USB port has bit the dust and can only charge on cradle. I ordered and returned a Pearl Flip as it was not my cup of tea at all. I've moved out of the corporate world and really don't need email at this point. My main concerns now are web browsing. Is the storm decent enough, stable enough now with all the OS updates? I know some will suggest waiting on the Storm 2 and that would be nice but since I only want to do a one year contract I'm sure it won't be less than $300 when it first comes out.

So, get the storm or not? My buddy has one and I've handled it and found it pretty decent.

I went from the Pearl to the Curve to the Storm and I love it. I am running OS 148 and while it's not perfect it works well enough. The web browsing is much better than the Curve. Storm 2 will cost ya, but you can get a Storm for $49 and upgrade to 5.0. If you've tried one out and like it, take the plunge.

Well, 119.99 with one year agreement but still not bad. Just too many choices... Another option is the Tour for $74.99 through Amazon wireless for 2yr agreement.

I tend to over think things and end up not getting anything...lol

I stayed away from the Tour as there seemed to be more complaints than with the Storm. And I am not shelling out $149 for problems. I am sure some have different stories, but I have no complaints about my Storm.

Yeah, looks like the Storm will win out for me. Spent some time at a VZW store again today playing with the Tour and Storm and I just don't like the keys on the Tour, particularly those on the edges.

Just wait til the iphone comes to Verizon. Better software, functionality, more apps, and with the Verizon software and service, this will truly be what the iphone was meant to be.

Believe me storm is a hell lot of trouble. I replaced my device thrice since Jan 2009 and still it is not working. Better go for some other device like 8520 (with optical joystick) or wait for 9700.

Thats the plan and hence only wanting a one year commitment. Honestly, I can't wait much as my Pearl is on its last legs. I was looking at the Curve 8330 but VZW wants $120 for it and the same for the storm.

Have you considered buying a used phone in the marketplace forums? By the way even if you got a Storm on a 2 year see if you can upgrade annually. My contract allows me to. I got my Storm this year and I am getting Odin next June.

Can't do yearly upgrade as my wife's number is the primary. Well, I could but she doesn't like to share her upgrade with me

Why not check out the marketplace forums. Then you don't have to extend your contract. And the storm is not a hell of a lot of trouble!

with all the phones i have used i really love the storm. I have friends with iphones and they have as many problems as the storm, some more. I think blackberrys are as good or better than most . For what its worth.

Thanks. I ordered one today and I should have it tomorrow. I'll give it a fair shake. My buddy got one on day of release and he has not had any problems with his except for poor battery life but he does do a fair amount of web browsing on it.

Hey, I have 30 days to change my mind right? I think anything will be a big step up from my pearl at this point.

Well, got my storm yesterday. Its better than I had expected it to be based on all the negative feedback since its release. It came with .148 on it and I'm uploading .151 as we speak. Some lagging but I can deal with it as its only occasional. Only real gripe is the corners of the screen as not as "clicky". I tried the card/paper trick behind the battery and it made a noticeable improvement. Overall I'm happy with it. Still have 20 something days to decide...
