Default Thoughts on the best OS for the Bold

Please Login to Remove!

I will receive my ATT Bold tomorrow. Have been reading about some of the latest OS's. Anyone have any thoughts about which would be the best? Even though 4.6.0.190 is out, some say .185 is better. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

I have had nothing but success with 4.6.0.190. I would recommend installing it.

Is it an ATT release version or a beta?

I see that now! It wasn't long ago that I was searching for it. I read Zerog's response and thought someone had posted a beta here!

Can anyone give a rundown on the advantage of .190 vs AT&T's .167? I have not had serious problems, and I don't want to do the upgrade if I won't be getting any noticable improvement.

The two most important issues that I had on prior builds, battery life and 3G to Edge handoff, are both improved in this users opinion.

I started with .125 and it was plagued with instabilities and some lag.
Updated to .162 and it was like having an entirely new device.
Today I jumped to .185, mostly because I was going to modify the Blackberry.alx file to unlock the vendor themes (mostly a waste of time - not much there) but also to have a more current OS installed. It's even better than .162, much snappier, and I didn't think that was even possible. Go with .185 as it seems more stable than .190. Cutting edge is good, bleeding edge hurts!

190 has taken away my ability to see thumbnails :( How do I go about downgrading?

I downgraded within an hour of loading .190 for this very reason. Seems that if you are using device memory to store your pics...on .190, you can't see them. That's the most bogus thing ever...

The .185 version offers dramatically improved battery life over the stock (to AT&T anyway) .167 version...and has no known negatives.

Until BlackBerry releases an official version that gives a real, 100% across the board improvement to all Bold users...I believe .185 is the best OS version right now!

If you follow the same procedures as when you upgraded you should get the option to "downgrade" when you run the software update.

Remove any trace of .190 from your computer via Add/Remove Software
control panel.
Download and install .185
Delete the Vendor.xml file.
Do a backup.
Run the software update.
