Default Address Book Alternative ?!?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

just a newbie in the BB scene, i´m switching over from WM5/6 based
smartphones.

I really like my new 8310 with all the smart features, but i´m missing
some thing´s.

The standard address book is quite rudimentary, compared to those
from the WM 5/6 based GUI.

just as an example to point out what i mean:

Hence the BB GUI of the address book is reduced to the minimum.
(Ok it points out all needful things...)

So do you know any 3rd Party / After markt add on to get a nicer
GUI for the address book ?

Regards,
Marco

There is Pocket Informant for BB, but I am not sure what the GUI looks like.

Hi, i checked the above mentioned link. But the pocket informant
is more a kind of a "full loaded" today screen.

I guess the BB is not so commen in after market software develpoment
as the WM based phones.

(Keeping in mind that WM based users differs a bit from BB user)

So i keep searching.

Marco

I never used Pocket Informant but I am told it is more of a PIM which you would want. It is not comparable with Pocket Day. Unfortunately, there is no trial at this time.

The users are the same if you came from WM6 to BB, but the preferences and adaptability are different. I went from BB to WM6 back to BB, so I very aware of the differences.

What i mean is, that you got more after markt software, like the
things from xda-developers.com, hence there is bigger developer
community for those wm based things. What i mean is there are
quite more OS Modder for WM then for the BB OS.

Nothing against the BB, but i guess the OS from BB is not so common
in the developer community.

From this point i´m very new in the BB scene, i used for several
years different WM based phones (Touch and non Touch).

The last phone was a HTC S630 (called DASH in the US, or HTC Excalibur),
and i began to love the style of a full QWERTZ / QWERTY keyboard.
Easy to use / handle even with one hand, so i already had a 200 MB data
plan contract with my provider.
And then last month they gave the BB Option for free without any monthly charges,
so i thought let´s give the BB a try. And i until today i do not regret it...

Marco

Jay, other than it not being "pretty", the Address Book of the BB is quite full-featured, has many options and it syncs seamlessly with Outlook.

I would suggest you use it a few weeks, kick the tires and post back here what specific needs you require that are not offered. What is there to lose?

Pocket Information is NOT a "today screen," but will be (when the BB version is released) a calendar, tasks, and contacts program (a "PIM"). It's currently in beta.

The point that BB users are different from WM users is likely true. They go for simplicity over flash. That said, there are plenty of BB users that enjoy a pretty screen.

Seems like this app is simply a pretty face but doesn't actually do anything that the BB doesn't do.

I can't say much, but I will say the PI's contacts screen is nicer than the standard one, but isn't exactly what's in the WM shot.
