My Pearl has decided to start acknowledging emails when the sender requests confirmation of delivery.

It seems to be doing this without asking if I want to send a confirmation receipt. I can't find the setting which I must have disturbed.

Could someone point me towards it please?

messages > (click menu button) > options > email settings > confirm delivery > no ; confirm read > no ; send read receipts > no

edit: if you have multiple accounts, you have to change this setting for each account.
