8700 volume issue "fix"
Please Login to Remove!
The 8700 apparently has a volume bug not very well known. Complaints of low volume when the indicator is all the way up have been reported.
The bug seems to be in the speakerphone control.
“Fix”
If the phone volume is low, simply call the phone and activate the speakerphone. Put the volume up all the way and hang up.
The low speakerphone setting prevents the volume control from being raised when in normal ear mode.
This was found on another Blackberry forum site (not has good as this one)
i have not found this fix on this site

Also, upgrading your OS (telstra or bharti) is another way.

For some reason the volume does not seem to be effected (increased) when trying the 'speaker phone volume increase technique'. Sucks.
UPDATED --
OK. tried it again. still doesn't seem to work. Am I doing something wrong? Please help. I am making a phone call. Then go to speaker phone raising the volume. Then going to handset. Then closing the call. hmmm..
Any suggestions to these steps? Greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
g

*bump*
Just wondering if anyone could offer any suggestions on resolving this issue. I tried the speaker volume fix as described but still no success. Maybe I am doing something wrong. I make a call, press the speaker phone button, max out the speaker phone volume and then end the call.
Any other suggestions greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Alan

Other than upgrading the OS there probably won't be anything else you can do.

Ya know guys, thinking about it, I realize I've NEVER experienced this problem!
And then it dawned on my WHY that is: I NEVER hold the phone to my ear to talk! Seriously... 99.99% of the time, I use a Bluetooth headset. It's vastly preferable to holding a phone that looks like a calculator to your ear!
But apparently, using the Bluetooth headset also gets rid of this volume problem. The only time I had too little volume on the BT headset was over 2 years ago, when I first got the Nextel BB 7520. It initially didn't provide quite enough volume over Bluetooth; I had to have my BT headset at max volume and if there was a lot of background noise, I still had trouble hearing. But that was fixed on the first OS update after I bought it, and it's never been a problem since, either on the 7520, or the 8700g.
Just some food for thought.

Walking down the street using a BT headset also makes you look like an idiot/tool/Borg. Srsly.

You're doing it right. It's just not appropriate for your situation. I'm guessing that you are on 4.2.x and have the speaker problem?
If you look at the reply just before yours you'll see that there's a gap in time of about six months. The problem this thread was originally about was the speaker volume for ringtones with certain loads of 4.1.x. While the symptom may be similar, I don't think the cause is the same. I mean, it doesn't work in my case either (8700c with 4.2.somethingorother) but it did resolve the problem when I had a certain carrier's 4.1.x on the same BB.

RE: volume fix
Thanks sdetweil for the tip..
tried the workaround for the volume fix as suggested and still no luck.. in call volume still low..
I then upgraded my BB to the Bharti 4.2 OS and still no change in the volume..
Sucks.. the 8700 is such a nice device but the volume level just sucks..
oh well.. thinking about selling the unit for a curve..

I had a Curve for two weeks but took it back as I couldn't get used to the trackball. I am back using my 8700r and the volume issue for ringtones and such is the exact same on the Curve. Same operating system. Hopefully they will come out with a fix sometime. It's funny, the volume was great until I put the 4.2 device software on it. I don't wanna go back as the 4.2 is great with all the multi media features.

That's funny you say that. I have NEVER had a problem with the caller's volume; I find it to be superb. Strange. I, on the other hand, have a hard time hearing the ringtones after I downloaded 4.2 for the device.
