Default Desperate need of advice for moving users between BES's on different SQL D/B's

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I am trying to move a lot of people off a BES server that is having some problems. However unlike 2 servers that connect to the same SQL D/B where you can literally just move user, the new server is on a new SQL server with a new D/B. I can't find a way of moving them without causing major disruption.
Could someone offer some advice in the best way to move these with the least amount of hassle and user intervention please.

Many thanks

This article from the RIM/BlackBerry knowledge base describes the necessary steps. There is NO way around the major disruption of service for the users!

Make sure the policies are exactly the same for each database. Otherwise, the user will have to wipe their blackberry and activate again. Just did 2500 user upgrade from 3.6 to 4.0 this way. I've seen it all.

I think that even if the policies were all the same, you'd still have to wipe and re-activate on the new server. Think about all the BES SRP ID specific stuff like the encryption keys and service books that are involved. Unfortunately I think the original poster has no other choice than to remove the accounts from the first BES, wipe the devices, and then re-activate them on the new BES.

Well looks like you have confirmed my worst thoughts then :( I was really hoping there was another way round this, telling all out users they're devices are going to be wiped is not going to pretty.
Thanks

We went through the same thing. It sucks (migrated 3000). RIM calls this a security feature.

Natrone, you did not get any errors in the BES console saying the policy did not apply? If you change your policy I believe non of the handhelds will be updated.

Do you not see a concern with a person being able to access a lost/stolen but locked handheld by activating it on a different BES, and pushing down a new password. This is one reason why the handheld must be secutity wiped before activating to a new server.

that's a fair point but in a situation like what I need to do it proves to be more than a pain

Just wish there was some sort of migration tool. Oh well off to get wiping and activating a lot of devices then

Moving users to different DBs suck. Chub is right, there needs to be a built in app for this. Besides, i mention your point in another thread.

Hmm, I was looking for the thread that I wrote on security risks so i could copy and paste. Must have posted it on another tech site. Oh well, good luck on migrating.
