Default SRP connection failed

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

First a little background info. In migrating our email system from Exchange 5.5 to 2003 wireless Blackberry integration stopped working. The BES was uninstalled and reinstalled in an attempt to get it working again (please don't ask me why, I wasn't involved at that time) but this did not succeed. It has since been given over to me to get our BES working again. I have installed it onto the following test envorinment:

Windows 2000 SP3
BES 3.6 (no SP)
Exchange 2000 SP3
MDSE 2003

I know it's not recommended, but everything is installed on a single machine. Therefore my test box in it's own domain, is the domain controller, Exchange server and BES all rolled into one.

The installation went well until I came to add the Blackberry server into the BES Management application. When I entered the SRP Host Routing Information "srp.eu.blackberry.net" I received an message box telling me "Incorrect format for Host Routing Information". Hmmm, I thought, and decided to leave it blank. The server was still added and it's icon was a light blue screen with a red cross. I checked the registry key "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Servers\DEV-EXCH2K-011\NetworkAccessNode" and found that it was populated with the value I had entered!

Fair enough, I thought. I decided to check the logs, here's an extract:

If anyone is interested in seeing the whole log then by al means drop me an email. Given the above error, I ran the BBSrpTest utility and it reported success, see below:

=====

NetworkAccessNode for DEV-EXCH2K-011 registry key is rp.eu.blackberry.net.
Attempting to connect to srp.eu.blackberry.net (193.109.81.33), port 3101
Sending test packet
Waiting for response
Receiving response
Checking response
Successful

=====

So now I am stuck. I'm waiting to hopefully be given some contact details for our service provider to talk to them, but in the meantime does anyone here have any idea what's going on?

are you sure you didnt have 2 routers running at the same time that will kill the srp.

If the test works out i would call RIM support to verify that the srp havent been closed

before calling verify that you have 3101 open tcp outbound towards srp.eu.blackberry.net

Hi,

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "2 routers", do you mean 2 Blackberry servers? I've been wondering about this. There is definitely only one running now, but when the original instance was uninstalled and reinstalled, is it possible that that caused a problem with the srp, 'killing it' as you say. Maybe that's the route of the problems I'm having now.

I have been assuming that if bbsrptest can communicate with the srp then that means the port / firewall access is set up correctly for the BES. I'll get someone to check that out for me now, thanks.

yes i mean 2 servers , if 2 blackberry router services are running with the same srp it dies.

bbsrptest should return a correct result but it never hurts to double check before calling support , i assume you are in europe since you use srp.eu

Is the srp authentification Key dependent to the srp server ???

another problem apears:
Now the handheld I use doesn't receive mails and doesn't send too!!! and mails are always pending in the server.

Do you have dual NICs? If so are they configured for teaming or fault tolerance? Or, do they wok indipendantly? I have seen cases were people would have two NICs and the SRP would disconnect because two NICs were contacting RIM's network at the same time.

yes I have two NICs but only one of them is activated.

changing the NIC doesn't resolve the problem which is:

srp.na.blackberry.net --> BES running and connected
srp.eu.blackberry.net --> BES running and not connected

srp tests are ok for "eu" and "na"

A SRP can only be connected to one of the 3 major BlackBerry Relays i.e. NA, EU or AP. Once first connected, it can only be connected to that one. This cannot be switched to one's like.

what do you mean by cannot be changed?

-even if I can change it in the registry and the log files tell that changes are realy done !!!.

Is there a registration process in relays that bans my server from other relays than the first I registered?

what happen if I uninstall my server and reinstall it the location is still required and I can chose another relay?will it work?

He means that each SRP Address or router has its own unique SRP identification and key's assigned to it. If you validate the srp to the one that it is not designated to, say if you had an srp.na.blackberry.net and you tried to validate it to srp.eu.blackberry.net, it will reject it, because that srp identifier and key is not assigned to it.

Hope that helps
