Kludged? The power station everyone is referring to is a RIM product designed to work with multiple devices. It takes inserts to fit each device, but it seems that RIM hasn't made the insert for the 9700 for some reason.

I'm not sure how you turn that into kludged. I would be pretty upset if I spent the money on the power station (they're not cheap) only to have it a dead end with the latest handsets.

Exactly my thoughts. I hope they produce the cradle insert soon.

You can get one off amazon for 9 bucks. I did and it works great.

If you need an extra charger they have them for about 3 bucks too.

They haven't even come up with the spare charger/cradle parts for the 8800 or the 8900...I don't think we'll be seeing one for the 9700 anytime soon...although I'd love to get one when they do.

I found it here for the 8800.

I cannot find it for the 8900 though. I do find the whole unavailabilty of it rather odd.

Cue someone else to tell us all that some "similar" Chinese made accessory is available online.

Yes, Seidio does have a Desktop Charging Cradle for the 9700. It works with our line of Innocases so you don't have to remove them when docking.

For what it's worth, I just bought the OEM battery pod that does fit in the Power Station I had bought for my old Pearl. For those of you with 9000 power stations, this is already done (since the 9000 and 9700 both use the same battery, apparently) but for those who've upgraded from one of the other devices, this accomodates the battery: Amazon.com: BlackBerry OEM Mini External Battery Charger for Blackberry 9000 - ASY-16223-001: Cell Phones & Service. So I'm waiting, too, for the cradle to complete the unit, but in the meantime one can take a USB cable from the back of the station and plug it into the cradles that everyone's been suggesting as a solution. It's pretty, and does the job.

Would be cool if there was also a car version, so it could hang vertically right off the dash - would allow a rudimentary nav system... as well as keep it charged...

Any news on the 9700 Cradle? Not the Pod but the Cradle for the RIM 9700 Power station.

I'm guessing that RIM aren't going to be making a fitting to allow the 9700 to fit into the BlackBerry Power Station?

Congratulations. I couldn't give a **** about the charging dock working perfectly with your 9700 within the context of this thread and nor could many others. Read back through this thread, which you probably didn't, and you'll see how annoyed people have been getting with people posting irrelevant **** about "some other" accessory that isn't the Blackberry Power Station Cradle for the 9700.

"Some other" accessory is not the "Blackberry Power Station Cradle for the 9700". "Some other" accessory might do something vaguely similar but it isn't the cradle for the Power Station that many 9700 owners would like and "some other" accessory will not enable 9700 owners to use the Power Station with their 9700. I cannot be more black and white than that.

If you want to talk about your opinion of another accessory, or what you had for breakfast, start your own thread. Thank you.

I totally hear you. I got sucked into buying the power station and a blackberry/plantronics bluetooth headset simply because I could charge the two with one device. I keep it by my bed and it has become my alarm clock. But, I'm ready to upgrade my 9000 to the 9700 and I want to get what should be a very inexpensive add on to my powerstation and I can't find one. Very frustrated, very disappointed, and considering all my options. Some of them don't include blackberry.

Sorry, but the Pod doesn't do the same job at all. The Power Station allows you to store and charge your Phone, Bluetooth headset and spare battery in a single convenient place and unit, from a single power socket, so they're always topped up and ready to grab for your next road trip.

In the office it also holds your Blackberry securely at the right height and angle on your desk so you can use it in-situ with one finger, without it sliding around or flopping all over the desk.

It even gives you an extra USB charging socket for powering other devices (e.g. MP3 player).

You can't do that with a Pod.

The "fuz", and the point of this thread, is that RIM charged a shed-load of money for that convenience, with the assurance that the investment was sound and future-proof because the Power Station could be adapted for any Blackberry by way of the interchangable phone and battery holders.

Now they've renaged on that support by not providing any new phone holders since the 9000. Given that models in the Bold, Curve and Pearl series are still being introduced, it makes no sense to the customer (especially in these "eco" times) to render the Power Station half-useless and destined for land-fill for want of a cheap bit of plastic (especially as the "spare" charger can still be used with 9700 M series batteries).
