Default 8220 - Which Data & Sync Aftermarket Cable's Work?

Please Login to Remove!

I've ordered two different micro USB cables for my 8220 (BB Pearl Flip) but struck out with compatibility both times. Both online places claimed the cable was compatible.

The stock cable that came with the phone works fantastic on 4 different PC's for BOTH sync'ing and charging.

If anyone has had any luck I would really appreciate knowing which cable you purchased from where and if it worked to sync as well as charge. Especially if the cable is retractable...

Many Many Thanks,
-Mr Bathmat

Interesting. I've bought several aftermarket microUSB cables and they all work for sync and charging.

Check out HDMI Cable, Home Theater Accessories, HDMI Products, Cables, Adapters, Video/Audio Switch, Networking, USB, Firewire, Printer Toner, and more! or get one from a T-Mobile corporate store.

Do you believe the BB Flip micro cable to be non-proprietary in that none of the pins are swapped? i.e. Any computer micro USB cable should work?

And do you own a BB flip?

Thanks!

We have two 8220s in our house and many at work. I am familiar with the Flip.

I have an 8900 which uses the same micro USB connector, which is NOT proprietary. I have car chargers, iGo iTips and converters from mini USB to micro USB.

They all work.

I use the mini USB that I got with my iPod to sync/charge my BB here at home. Used it with an 8700, 8800 and now the 9000.

So I don't think it really matters.

I've got one of micro-USB cables from Motorola, it charges my 8220 just fine but no sync. I didn't need sync with extra cable, so I knew what I was getting - and price was very good (almost free).

Looking at cable that came with blackberry (charge/sync) and Motorola one (just sync) I can't tell the difference betwen them.

So, it might be that people get sold Moto or other non-BB vendor cables, intentionally or not.

So you have a cable that won't sync.
That's the first time I've ever heard of that.

My computer does not lie to me. I tried to sync with that cable and it can't find device connected. BlackBerry cable connected to same USB port of same computer worked for sync.

Moto didn't lie to me either - they sold this as a charger cable. Said "charger cable" on price tag in computer store.

I didn't say you lied. I said it is the first time I've ever heard of a cable that didn't sync.

Well, here is what this cable is:

USB Charger Cable for MOT Q9 & RAZR2 V9

Charges 8220 just fine. Syncing using that cable - not so good.

Try the cable in a different usb slot. if that doesnt work, just for fun, try the cable with a different device. It could be a bad cable, rare but it happens. You could also stop by your local Big Lots, Wal-Mart or Dollar Store and pick up another cable . It will work fine and a whole lot less expensive. High price cables are usually a rip-off. Chargers are a little trickier. But a usb cable is a usb cable ! Just my 2 cents !
