Default Hourglass of Death

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Does anyone know what can cause the Hourglass of Death?

I have read the following that can cause this issue.
New application
Bad device
No space on device

Are any of these false or are is there more?

Usualy resetting the device fixes the issue but it comes back after a week or so. We are now trying to reload the os on the device to see if that fixes.

Thanks,

BB

They could all be a factor to this. Most likely cause is low memory. What is your file free (Options > Status)? Pull the battery and check again.

When did this start happening? Did you install any new apps at the time this began?

Also, what applications do you have running in the background. Alt+escape. Some 3rd party apps are memory intensive.

I had this happen twice and it was the same culprit both times...upgrading a third-party app. I reinstalled the OS (upgraded actually) and it fixed the problem.

maybe some of the apps had a memory leak, it might cause the BB to run full and crash...

Default Not a memory issue?

I just had to get a warranty replacement on my Curve. On the new device, I seem to be getting the hourglass all the time. I have very few apps loaded, and am showing 15-20mb memory most of the time.

Any thoughts on what might be causing the problem (or is the "new" device also a piece of junk)??

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Don't forget to check to see which apps are actually running in the background.
I had this problem awhile back, and someone gave me this suggestion. I discovered that about 12 apps were all trying to run at the same time, not to mention trying to also update themselves all at once (it's a wonder my poor little pearl didn't have a nervous breakdown). Seems I was just exiting apps when I used them, but should have been closing them.
Hope this helps.
