Navara Extends Enterprise Mobility Suite to BlackBerry; Navara's WAP and JAVA Solutions Enable Secure Online or Offline Access to Enterprise Applications via BlackBerry

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 28, 2004--Navara today announced the availability of two new products designed to deploy mobile enterprise applications to users of BlackBerry(R) from Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM)(TSX: RIM). Navara's WAP and Java Solutions for BlackBerry harness the complete server facilities of the Navara Mobility Suite - enabling the porting of mission critical data from desktop applications to these increasingly ubiquitous handheld devices.

"Navara is committed to helping our customers increase productivity and improve service delivery by extending the reach of their enterprise applications to those mobile devices and networks that best meet their needs," said Phil Regan, chief executive officer of Navara. "The growing enterprise adoption of BlackBerry led to our development of two new solutions that easily and quickly mobilize data from both legacy and newly-developed web-based applications to bring additional workflow functionality to BlackBerry handhelds."

As a member of the BlackBerry ISV Alliance program, Navara's reach into the growing BlackBerry market enables thousands more businesses to mobilize business application information via one or more of the following data interfaces: Navara ODBC Adapter; Navara Remedy Action Request Adapter; Navara XML Adapter or Navara HTTP Adapter. Navara's ability to interface with multiple data sources is supported by "mobility wizards"; facilitating rapid project implementations and customizing workflows for the end-user without the need for prolonged service engagements.

Navara's adapters manage the extraction of data from enterprise applications via relational database tables, XML documents or simple flat files, integrating with industry standard applications such as Remedy, Oracle, SAP, J.D. Edwards, Sage, Exchequer and many others, to leverage the programming interfaces (APIs) of those products.

"BlackBerry has become a widely deployed and highly robust development platform for wireless enterprise applications," said Mark Guibert, Vice President, Corporate Marketing of Research In Motion. "We are pleased that Navara has chosen to extend its Mobility Suite to the BlackBerry platform and help enterprise customers achieve an even greater return on investment from their wireless deployments."

Navara WAP and Java Solutions for BlackBerry

Navara developed two approaches to accommodate customer preferences with a choice of always-on, offline or intermittently-connected modes of operation. For the ultimate in flexibility, it is possible to deploy and use both Navara solutions in the same project for the same user population.

The Navara WAP Solution for BlackBerry is simple to deploy as it uses either the built-in BlackBerry browser or WAP browser on the BlackBerry handheld. This solution requires the user to have wireless access while they access and update their data. This solution is best deployed in plant-wide, campus-wide and urban situations where wireless coverage is very high.

The Navara Java Solution for BlackBerry allows users to operate without wireless coverage. It uses a specially written Navara Client (written in Java using the J2ME standard), which enables the user to work on more complex forms and records, even if they do not have a wireless connection, and synchronize the data with the server when the user has coverage.

Both the Navara WAP Solution and the Navara Java Solution harness the complete server facilities of the Navara Mobility Suite including the Design Center for designing forms; the Administration Environment for managing the flow of data to and from mobile workers; and the Adapters that manage the integration of the mobile forms with the enterprise back-end host applications and databases.
