you could always use the calculator... just multiply by .15 to add the 15%. if you want to add more (because they were good) multiply by .2 to figure 20%.

as a former waiter and bartender for over 10 years, i cant tell you how much i hated people that pulled out the "tip card" and started sliding away.. with their little reading glasses and the pocket light so they could read.. was my service that questionable that you need to make sure its 15% and not 16.5%?

or, you could stop being a cheap ass and just tip what you know is fair... how hard is it to figure out 15 to 20%? you can always ask the waiter or waitress to add on the 15% so you dont have to figure it out.

my grandmother has a tip calculator, maybe shell give it to you when she dies..

(im not bitter about restraunt work.. really ;))

i was looking for one that had more functionality than just calculating tip...my sister has a verizon lg phone in which it will calculate tip and also you can enter the amount of people in your group and it will calculate a total for each person + tip...i was looking for something like this as i tend to go to lunch a lot of times with coworkers and we are always struggling breaking the bill up!

Wirelessly posted (7100t: BlackBerry7100/4.0.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

Its just not that hard. If the check is $58. 10% is 5.80. Double it for 20%. Split the difference for 15%. It would take me longer to drag out the BB, scroll around to the program, type in all the info, etc. I can have the check figured in seconds. I travel on company business all the time. I just give the 20%. Its easy, and makes the waiters and waitresses happy. Oh, and by the way its around $11 for the tip in my example. Easy easy!

Default TIPS should be optional

this is going to piss a lot of people off but i don't really care...i'm going to say it anyways ...

it's funny about people in the service industry and your pet peeves about tipping...you should be happy you're even getting a tip IMHO...there are many jobs that require a lot harder work than yours does and they do not and/or cannot receive a tip...so be happy when people pull out that sliding calculator or BB to calculate tip money you shouldn't even be getting in the first place...

but just to make things clear, i always tip the recommended 15%, even if i don't agree with it, because some people's lives do depend on it, even though it shouldn't

well, most people in the service industry get paid very very little from the restaurant they are working in and really make their money off of tips.

well yes i know that, but if they don't like their wages then they should work elsewhere...it's a problem they made themselves...people found out that if they serve tables and waiter they might make a crappy wage but hey, people give you money for free!

and after a while they get accustomed to getting free money and then start relying on it...when it runs a bit thin then they complaining when their free money isn't 'paying' them enough...

it's like working at the mr.tubesteak stand in the dead of summer infront of an ice cream shop and then complaining about the lack air conditioning coming out of the store...
