sj - I upgraded my 7100t and was likewise disappointed that the upgrade didn't result in any volume increase. BTW, I am using a Motorola HS-850. The RIM recommended HS-820 was no louder.
mike - thanks for the info. What headset are you using and what headset did it replace? Is it loud enough to use in an airport or while walking down a city street?
BTW, this is a known issue acknowledged by RIM where the bluetooth output volume was reduced in the upgrade from v3.8 to v4.0, meaning that headsets that were once loud enough in most situations, now require a quiet environment to be usable.
