A question to JAVELIN users, would you consider moving to a bold or are you happy with the JAVELIN?

I'm not considering it for two reasons. I prefer the 8900 to the Bold, and I'm on TMO. I got to play with both at the CES and much prefer the form factor of the 8900 to the Bold.

I strongly considered the Bold. I use a leather pouch and keep my phone in my pocket (pearl before this) and the Bold is too big. The 8900 is the right size, a tad narrower than my wife's Curve (I wish it were identical though-I like the key spacing on the 8300 a little better). ATT doesn't work as well where I live as Tmob either, and it costs more too. Pretty easy decision for me overall.

Why in the world would I want to change phones? This one is a near pecfect as I can imagine. If I'd designed it myself, not sure I could have made one better for me.

I actually moved from the Bold to the Javelin and have no regrets. The Bold is a very nice phone but the form factor and abundant amount of on-board memory on the Jav is better for me..

I wanted to get the Bold when it came out... it was just too big for me. With 3G not being the de-facto standard for mobiles yet, I'm happy with the 8900, at least for now...

My cubical mate uses the AT&T bold.. i had a deep urge to get the bold but I am happy I resisted it and got the 8900 instead. The only factor which interested me is it being a 3G phone but I was hardly using it. Javelin has an equivalent fast processor, double memory, better camera.. so no question of moving to Bold.

First of all after carrying the 8900, the Bold feels like a brick!
Second, putting them right side by side the 3G on AT&T is a joke. Nothing loads faster AND the 3G signal is sporatic and AT&T 2G is even worse. Your phone just keeps hunting and pecking. This is true in many locations - AND 3G is a power hog. This is true less on Bold than the Iphone and the Storm - but it will give you much poorer results than good old Edge. And with Edge onthe 8900 (faster processor) you will fly compared to older T-Mobile blackberrys.
So all said, the ONLY thing going for the Bold is the bigger screen and the negatives sure outweigh the positives.

Although the Bold screen is bigger, you do not actually feel the difference because the resolution of 8900 is higher.

I read with interest all the Bold and Storm threads on 2 forums when they came out because I was interested. Compared to the 8900 they had way more problems with just about everything (esp the Storm) compared to this phone. I'm glad I waited. And the camera rocks bigtime.

Any Javelin users that switch to the Bold are practitioners of a bad long term strategy. The only logical reason to switch is for the 3G. 3G will be arriving to T-Mobile in due time, and when it does, the plans will still be way cheaper than AT&T's (with tethering included).

The size, style, speed, everything about the 8900 (except no 3g) is way better IMO. And 3G is still so new that it would be a good chance of a bad deal for the next few months, if not years (also just IMO). I am in love with my 8900
Once Tmo gets better coverage AND gets their 3G all sorted out, there will be an 8910 or 8920 or something I bet

The 8900 is as close to a perfect BB as you will get.

Too bad it's not perfect in any sense. There BB OS in general is buggy... my screen blacks out on me for like 10 seconds occasionally and YouTube fails with new updates, and I heard there a lot of bugs with the Bold as well.

Physically, the Curve is smaller, a better fit, better looking... however, it does lack a larger screen and I disagree that you won't notice it between a Bold. You will.

The bold is much too bulky though.

I'd ask for Mini-USB as well, but I know that's not plausible, and I don't care so much because Micro-USB IS the future standard after all.

3G in the curve would be perfect. The additional RAM + 3G would make my curve faster than a Bold.

to me, the only benifit of the bold over the javelin is the friggin' placement of the charging port!

That's about it. Oh and maybe where the memory card slot is placed on the bold.

In the past, I moved from an 8700 to an 8800 to an 8100 and finally an 8300. The 8300 Curve was, at the time (for me at least) the perfect compromise of concerns -- best trade-off of size, keyboard, screen and general usability. The 8900 does it again, being (for me) the perfect form factor. Sure - I'd like a larger screen, but not enough to want to carry a larger device, and the 8900 screen is gorgeous. As far as I'm concerned, the 8900 form factor is as near perfect as I've yet seen in the marketplace: eminently usable, but extremely pocketable without making me feel like Batman with gadgets on a utility belt. I simply do NOT want to carry a device any larger than this, and even though the Bold isn't THAT much larger, it's large enough to be annoying by comparison to the 8900.

I've tried out the Bold, Storm, IPhone and a couple of recent Win-mobile phones, but for me the 8900 is head and shoulders above them all as being the best overall combination of form, function and fitness for purpose.

I was out of contract with T-Mobile, and could have switched to AT&T had I wanted to (or any other carrier) with no penalty. I chose the 8900 because that was the phone I wanted, and I've been very happy with the decision -- loving my Javelin, and wouldn't consider trading it for a Bold even if it were offered to me, unlocked, same price, for use on T-Mobile. I wouldn't trade it - because I prefer the 8900.

Once in a while a device with the right size, features, price and all-round feel good factor converges into a sweet spot, and I must say the Javelin is one such device. Is it perfect? No. But it is one sweet device in recent memory that have managed to come together neatly.

The last time I ever felt this was the venerable Palm V.
