A new guy we just hired got his 8330 in, it is a newer one with an MEID instead of an ESN. Got him activated on BES and went to upgrade his OS. Could not make it happen using DM 4.7 in any way shape or form using two different laptops (even after following the 'I del vendor.xml, still not updating guide'); ended dropping back to DM 4.6. Once there - his phone would still not take the 8330M 4.5.0.205 upgrade. It took the 8330 4.5.0.253 though w/o issue.

Just curious if you guys have seen this?

You can only update an "m" series 8330 with an OS designed specifically for "m" models. The latest is 4.5.0.138. The OS you loaded onto it is not designed for that model. If it worked at all it's a lucky coincidence.

So he does not have an 8330M? Just an 8330 with an MEID instead of ESN?

If the device has an MEID instead of an ESN then it's the 8330m. That's the definition of the 8330m.

Not really (although all 8330m's are MEID). Their is a small batch of 8330's that have an MEID and are not the 8330m. To be 100% sure what you have you need to go to options / about it will tell you if you have an 8330 or 8330m

From my own research the "m" really means true embedded MMS. MMS is also carrier dependent for the 8330 and the 8330m

On the 8330 MMS has to be processed through server and then sent to your phone. Most of the time is will be a link to photo or video. But it could also have the photo or video (resized) in the MMS itself.

On the 8330m MMS can be set directly to the phone with no server processing. So its "True MMS" and is embedded.

So the only real way to tell an 8330 from an 8330m is in the about screen only.
